Darwin Buffaloes have pulled back some pride and kept a glimmer of hope for finals alive with a big win over the Palmerston Magpies.
The Double Blues came in off the back of a five match losing run, needing a win to give them any chance of clawing back into finals contention.
And while they still have a long way to go they ticked off their first task beating the still-winless Magpies, with captain Jarrod Stokes scoring six goals in the last quarter to push the score to 19.19 (133) to 7.6 (48).

Buffs came out with plenty of intensity using the likes of Jarrod Stokes and Baxter Mensch in the midfield to get dominance over the ball.
The scores didn’t come their way straight away, as Palmerston’s defence applied themselves, but when Kokwam Niki nailed the opener Buffs had their tails up.
Thomas Clarke impressed and showed his importance in a contest against Palmerston’s ever-exciting Waylon Davey, who played another impressive game after shifting down back.
The big body of Daniel Stafford made his presence known and constantly offered himself as a scoring option, while down back Nathan Stewart and Kevin Maroney made the important intercepts.
Palmerston did have their moments early with Lucas Edmonds continuing to show himself as the side’s best player of the season.
His constant darts up the ground, and an important first goal, brought some inspiration to his side with Tyson Young, Tate Barrett and Alexander Paech all applying themselves well.
Buffaloes took control in the second quarter and former St Mary’s star Nick Yarran was the standout for them whether it was tackling, getting possessions or ducking and weaving with ball in hand.
The Buffs just built their lead from their with forwards such as Hassan Ahmat-Watkins and Stafford getting multiples, while Chris Williams and Mensch enjoyed success against their former side.
And the side could have had plenty more to their name had inaccuracies not creeped into their game in the swirling breeze.
Jarrod Stokes continued to impose himself on the contest and his clearances ensured his side kept the scores coming.
And in the fourth quarter he showed off his explosive pace and known endurance adding six goals to his name in the last period.
For Palmerston thrillers from young gun Dallas Caulton and Davey, as well as a couple of scores later in the match from Toby Liddelow were what they had to celebrate.
“It’s great to get this, the past few weeks haven’t gone our way, but we knew we had to get back on the track, work hard and the win would come our way,” Stokes said.
“We had to come with the right mindset and play four quarter of footy, we’ve been inconsistent recently so we knew we had to play a full game today and we did that.
“Our goal was to be ruthless, once we got the lead we wanted to keep it and extend and I think we did a good job at that, which is so important right now.
“We just need to take it one week at a time now, do all the right things and the wins will come knowing finals are still a possibility.”

Preview
The Buffaloes and Palmerston are hunting for some pride after a disappointing run of results.
And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every minute of the match from 4.30pm on Saturday.
The Double Blues started the season with so much promise, winning their first four matches, but they have since let finals slip out of their grasp culminating in a disappointing loss to Districts in Round 13.
But this is their chance to respond, and possibly stake a claim to contest finals should other results fall in their favour.
However, Palmerston will be targeting this match knowing this is one of their last chances at a win for the 2023-24 NTFL season.
They are still down a couple of their big guns, but Alexander Paech and Lucas Edmonds have shown effort throughout the season, and will need to show some more to cause the upset.
A full replay of the match will be posted here following the end of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
