NTFL 2023-24: Watch Darwin Buffaloes vs Nightcliff Tigers women’s Round 11 livestream

As if their finals prospects weren’t already fragile enough, Darwin women let slip a 13-point quarter time advantage to lose to one of their biggest rivals. Re-live all the action.

Replay: Darwin v Nightcliff - NTFL Women's Premier League Round 11

Nightcliff took control late to claim victory in a tough women’s battle against Darwin Buffettes and strengthen their position in the top four.

In an absorbing encounter, it was the Tigers who finished the stronger side, scoring 8.4 (52) to 5.4 (34) to head into the break well inside the top four.

The match ebbed and flowed, with the Buffettes actually taking control early on despite missing two of their best in Molly Althouse and Ellie Niki.

They brought plenty of enthusiasm and intensity as they looked capable of overturning their run of recent losses, with captain Bianca Stokes impressing in front of goal.

Thr Tigers came back with a vengeance in the second quarter, though, and took the lead on the back of 20 unanswered points.

Cassie McWilliam was a constant danger, ducking and weaving while on the run and adding three goals to her name.

Amber Wunungmurra kept the Buffettes in the contest with a quality goal, but it was the last they would have as Nightcliff continued to surge.

Tigers captain Hannah Turnbull led strongly from the backline, while Georgia Johnson was another standout in front of goal.

In the end, the Tigers were the side still running to see out the contest.

PREVIEW

The Darwin Buffettes will go head to head with the Nightcliff women with both sides aiming to overturn a recent losing run.

The NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream every minute from 5pm Saturday.

While the Buffettes are still on track to play finals football in 2024, a run of five-straight losses, which started with a 36-point drubbing to the Tigers, will be ringing alarms at the club.

The Buffettes suffered a heavy defeat to reigning premiers PINT last week, but there’s still plenty of talent in the side which won the premiership themselves just two years ago.

AFLW player Sarah Perkins had a strong game in her return to the Double Blues, and if the rest of the side can feed off her experience they will be a danger again going forward.

Meanwhile, Nightcliff dropped off late against second-placed St Mary’s last round, and will be hoping to put forward a four quarter effort this time around to abate a two-game losing streak.

The Tigers have been a strong defensive side all season, and their backline, led by Hannah Turnbull, held Saints to just one goal in the second half.

Cassie McWilliam and Mickayla Ward is as dangerous a forward line as you can get in the women’s comp, and the pair will once again be threatening against the Buffettes.

Full replays of the match will be posted here following the game’s finish.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
