Coming off a soul-destroying first-round loss, St Marys restored its reputation following a mammoth 154-point victory over the Tiwi Bombers at Gardens Oval.
Saints booted nine goals to one in the opening term and essentially snuffed out their opposition on the way to a 32.13 (205) to 7.9 (51) win.
Led by a four-goal first term from key forward Jackson Calder and with midfielders Dylan Landt, Nathaniel Paredes and Nick Yarran across half-back Saints rushed through the game in dominant form.
Green team coach Anthony Vallejo was in a good frame after the match and said his players responded well after Round 1.
“We wanted a response after last week and we got that today,” Vallejo said.
“As a coach I was pleased particularly after we implemented some things at training and it makes us happy to see it all work out.
“Particularly pleasing was the contribution of some of our young group – Ethan Bowden and Kobe Hodges are juniors who have progressed through the ranks and they both contributed today, and both played the game out.
“We’ve also got a few tall options which doesn’t often happen at Saints and without Ryan Smith today, Jake Toa, Luke Oborn and Lachlan Rayner, until he was injured, shared the ruck duties.”
The islanders were blown away early in the contest, but bounced back in the second quarter where experienced Nathan Djerrkura and Patrick Heenan played tough accountable footy.
Meanwhile small forward Kim Kantilla and fullback Harley McCarthy emerged as shining lights.
But it was too few against a team with a point to prove and with twelve goal kickers, the men in green were unstoppable.

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW
St Mary’s will return to Gardens Oval in search of redemption against Tiwi Bombers in Round 2 of the NTFL.
And the NT News will be there to livestream the game exclusively for you.
St Mary’s return to the site of last week’s disastrous loss against Waratah, and will be eager to wipe the slate clean with a Round 2 win.
To do so they will need their leaders to step up and take the game on the way Saints were known to do last season.
Nate Paredes and Dylan Landt performed last week, but will need to get the ball out to their forward targets and get the scoreboard ticking early.
Tiwi, however, will want to turn the pressure up on their foes and make a point they’re here for results this season.
It’s been a long time between drinks for the Bombers, but they’re a side who usually turn up against the Green Machine.
If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
The game starts at 2.30pm Saturday.
