2025-26 NTFL live stream: Watch Tiwi Bombers v Waratah men in Round 2

The Tiwi Bombers showed plenty of flair as they secured their first win of the season taking advantage of Waratah’s inaccuracies. Watch the REPLAY.

The Tiwi Bombers are off the mark after smothering a fight back from a Waratah outfit that were made to pay for early inaccuracies.

Pitched against the midday heat the two sides brought plenty of energy in pursuit of their first win of the season.

Bombers dragged out an early lead, but were able to kick it up a gear when Waratah drew level midway through the third quarter and were able to run away the 14.9 (93) to 10.17 (77) winners.

Tahs were largely inaccurate early in the piece going into half time with a score line of 3.10 that did not do justice to the work rate of midfielders such as Cody Szust and Scott Carlin.

Their indirect kicking was compounded by the pressure game of former AFL players in the Bombers defence chiefly Ashton Hams and Sam Darley.

Their ability to intercept and disrupt plays set Waratah firmly on the back foot only aided by the typical Tiwi ability to attack coast to coast.

William Munkara was the early benefactor with two first quarter goals, but it was in the second where the Bombers ability to strike through the middle gave them the edge.

Waratah did benefit from the return of Jayden Magro, who was the league’s top scorer in the 2023-24 NTFL season.

Magro had five goals to his name by game’s end, reminiscent of his very first game for the Tahs where he scored a bag.

Young gun Zac Withers was again busy while Joel Stevens and Clay Shadforth both showed their abilities too as future leading talents of the side.

The Tahs worked back into the contest in the third quarter, in which Magro scored three majors, and at times drew level.

However, each time they came the Bombers went up another level themselves with Frances Tipungwuti playing a starring role with his electric pace and ability to snap a winner.

There was some confusion when Tiwi’s Dwayne Kerinaiua kicked in, Waratah appeared to catch on to it and tried to move out quickly only to be brought back when the umpires deemed it a goal.

The former Waratah junior’s score was a painful one to end the quarter propelling the Bombers two goals clear just moments after his former club had found parity.

The Bombers edged further ahead in the final term and were able this time to protect their margin of difference against tired legs.

“This is reward for effort, we’re not surprising anyone anymore, they know how we can play so we get everyone at their best,” Darley said.

“Waratah are a class outfit and for us as a team we have the habit of being unable to stop a side when they get a run on.

“But it shows how we’ve grown that when Waratah got level rather than turning ugly as it sometimes has done we were able to wrestle back and come away with the four points.

“From us it was a very even performance, we didn’t have any passengers and that’s what you need against the top sides otherwise they’ll show you up.

“It’s just about stacking the wins up at the moment before our home games start where we know we have a bit of a fortress.”

PREVIEW

There’s no doubting that Waratah and Tiwi are tough outfits, but after their first round defeats they’ll both be out to show the competition they should be feared.

Every moment of the match will be live streamed from 2pm on Saturday by The NT News and KommunityTV as part of our season-long coverage.

WHY TO WATCH

The Tiwi Bombers were well up to challenge of Nightcliff in the first round undone by their inaccuracies despite winning the scoring shots count 24-22.

There were the typical moments of magic with Anthony Munkara bringing the celebrations as the side grew into the encounter during the back half.

Brothers Mihail Lochowiak and Anzac Lochowiak proved strong recruits on debut while former AFL players Ashton Hams and Sam Darley got more their fair share of the ball.

Waratah will want to right the wrongs of a slow start against PINT that left them too far in the dust to stage a real comeback.

Despite that the usual performers in new skipper Scott Carlin and the returning Robbie Turnbull made an impact and will be called upon again to lift the side.
