PINT ends drought
PINT left their goal scoring late but did what they needed when it mattered to deny the Tiwi Bombers women their first ever victory against them.
For much of the Bombers time in the Women’s Premier League the Queenants have been the dominant force of the competition and came into this match again as the favourites.
But despite that favouritism the Bombers started in a flurry and for three quarters were the only side to have scored a goal, until a fourth quarter surge saw PINT win 3.6 (24) to 2.5 (17).
Tiwi had yet to win from their first two games of the season but as they did in both they kicked off with an early surge.
Again they kicked the first two goals in the opening quarter with Taniesha JohnForrest starting the scoring and Hilda Moreen delivering a great torpedo.
Sarah Darcy was a force backing up a best players outing in Round 2 with plenty of the ball going through her hands and results coming off the back off her efforts.
PINT were inaccurate early doors and were unable to take advantage of chances that came their way, often off the back of Jasmyn Hewett’s work in the ruck.
At three quarter time they had still yet to kick a goal, but with the wind at their backs they had the go ahead then to kick three straight without a misstep.
Kenidee McNamara broke the drought followed by Brooklyn Kraft and Sarah Singh to ensure their side continued their unbeaten ways in season 2025-26.
PREVIEW
The Bombers may be without a win but they have started each of their matches this season in a flurry surging to a two-goal lead in both.
If they can stick it out for the full quarters the same way they start a game, then they are sure to be a danger for whoever they face when it clicks.
Jelena Tipungwuti was the go to and scored three goal last time out while Sarah Darcy was impressive against Waratah with 17 intercept possessions and 27 disposals.
Meanwhile, PINT are unbeaten and remain a side that cannot be underestimated with Jasmyn Hewett already among the best players in both games played.
Steph Lawrence leads the goal count for the season already with seven so far, including four from the match against Wanderers.
