2025-26 NTFL live stream: Watch Southern Districts v PINT in Round 4
Southern Districts christened the new flood lights at Norbuilt Oval in fashion on Saturday night in a very fiery top of the table clash against PINT. Watch REPLAYS here.
Southern Districts christened their new floodlights at Norbuilt Oval in spectacular fashion on delivering PINT their first defeat of the season.
Both sides entered Round 4 undefeated at 3–0, and a strong crowd packed in to witness two of the competition’s heavyweights battle it out under lights.
But the home side reigning premiers came out on top for their 15th straight NTFL victory beating PINT 10.11 (71) to 7.8 (50).
The Greenants capitalised first, with Archie Stevens majoring following a rare defensive mix-up between Lloyd Johnston and Thomas Clarke.
Ethan Smith, Thomas Schwarzenberg and Ned Pendergast applied the pushback for the Greenants, countering the home side’s efforts.
But once Quinton Narkle broke through with a clutch goal using the breeze, the home side switched into gear.
Southern Districts began to move the ball cleanly off half-back, catching PINT out of position with Steven Motlop, Will Farrer, and Dylan Barry linking up nicely.
Tempers flared on more than three separate occasions before the break with a melee at the half time siren.
From there, the Crocs’ trademark tackling pressure began to wear down the PINT effort.
Matt Shannon continued his strong form, kicking crucial goals despite copping a heavy knock to the head, while Ashley Johnson’s clever volleyed finish on the goal line typified his night out.
Johnston was again outstanding across half-back, intercepting repeatedly and setting up countless attacking efforts.
PINT rallied late through Pendergast’s brave contested mark and goal, but Districts’ lead was too much to reel in.
Barry put the exclamation point on the win with a spectacular screamer and goal on the siren, sealing the Crocs’ 15th straight victory and 22nd win in 23 matches.
In his fourth match for his new side, Johnston said he was secretly stoked to be back in the rough and tumble of the NTFL after seasons out in the AFL.
“I obviously hadn’t played up here for a while but tonight and the other games, to have that type of energy is great,” he said.
“Especially in front of a really good home crowd, it makes the game more exciting.
“We knew that PINT was going to come out strong, but the boys were too good.
“Sounds boring, but we just played our systems, did what we were told and that worked and we just kept our fast game style.
“We didn’t close out the game well, I reckon we’re going to be told how we need to improve and we have a bye so we’ll have extra time to fix everything up.”
Still re-adjusting to the Top End, Johnston said he’s feeling nice and fit, but is nevertheless struggling with the heat.
“I’ve been struggling a bit with how hot it is,” he said.
“I think I’ve been playing some good footy out the back and really that’s come down to the side letting me play how I play and really making me feel welcomed into the side.”

PREVIEW
Southern Districts christened the new flood lights at Norbuilt Oval in fashion on Saturday night in a very fiery top of the table clash against PINT.
A contest that saw the Crocs come out victors to the tune of 10.11 (71) to 7.8 (50) Districts had to work themselves into the contest against a hearty Greenants side.
Former Gold Coast Suns Lloyd Johnston was at his silky smooth best again in the backline while Ashley Johnson and Matt Shannon caused headaches for PINT up front.
The visitors had a late surge in the final quarter, but the deficit was too great - extending the Crocs winning streak to 22.
WHY TO WATCH
Reigning premiers Southern Districts have shown their strength in the opening rounds, already beating some of the competition heavyweights to maintain their winning run.
Crucially, their new star power recruits in Quinton Narkle, Lloyd Johnston and Ashley Johnson have all made their presence known racking up possessions and showing their AFL experience.
Expect the Crocs to come into their own again in what is not just their first home game of the season, but the first scheduled under Norbuilt Oval’s new lights.
That home-ground advantage is something PINT will be mindful of as they make the trip to Fred’s Pass for their biggest challenge yet.
The much-improved Greenants battled their way back in a seven-goal sequence to overcome the Tiwi Bombers last round and now sit three wins from three.
Former Adelaide Crow James Rowe had a huge influence once again while Connor McDonald stood tall in the ruck, a position he will have his work cut out for him in against the Crocs.
