With the spotlight firmly on the Tasmania Devils program, nothing is changing how head coach Jeromey Webberley approaches the rest of the season.
The Devils have three rounds to go this season in the under-18s competition with the boys looking set for the wildcard round.
They’ll take on the Greater Western Victoria Rebels on Sunday with the boys and girls double header to be live streamed on KommunityTV.
The boys will play at 10.30am before the girls follow at 1pm.
As the Devils look to build into the VFL and VFLW for 2026 Webberley said the focus is purely on getting the players prepared for these last few games.
“Our program remains the same, obviously everyone’s excited about the potential VFL and VFLW license being granted but it hasn’t been ticked off yet,” Webberley said.
“There’s definitely some excitement from the playing group around what’s next for Tassie.
“But in terms of the week to week types of things, it’s just business as usual.”
The Devils, who last played together on June 22 when they defeated Sandringham, will be missing a few stars from the boys team.
“Toby Callow is not available for selection this week, he’s got some groin soreness, so he will miss this weekend’s game,” Webberley said.
“I believe apart from one or two, we’re pretty close to having all available, so our injury list outside of Callow is really good.
“(Wilbur) McMurray is returning this week but will be playing 50 per cent game time for North Hobart.
“And young Hugh McCallum is not available this week with a bit of a back complaint but we should expect these boys to be right for the next couple of games.”
Eliza Wylie is missing from the girl’s team with a broken finger and expected to return in the next fortnight.
Webberley said he is expecting a pretty tough contest against the Rebels.
“In terms of the boys’ space, they’ve got some real key threats in front of the ball, they’ve got a couple of talls and a couple of really quality smalls,” Webberley said.
“So clearly limiting supply from week to week is really important at this level but clearly this week that’s where the biggest threat lies.
“Gotta make it a dirty ball as such in terms of it’s higher, it’s rushed so they can’t make educated decisions going inside 50.
“If we can do it to break even around the ball and play the game in the front end of the ground which we like to do, I am sure that we’re going to give them some headaches.
“It’s going to be a competitive game, so it’s about limiting some of their supply from the front half and limiting their spread in front of the ball.”
