Kingsgrove T20 Cup: Tom Scoble out to make mark in Gordon v UNSW Sixers Conference final

Tom Scoble’s year didn’t exactly pan out as expected. But it could get a lot better thanks to the Kingsgrove T20 Cup Sixers Conference final which has been moved to January 10.

Tom Scoble had planned to have a full season of cricket in the UK under his belt heading into the 2020/21 NSW Premier Cricket season and T20 Kingsgrove Cup.

And while the coronavirus pandemic ruined his overseas plans, Scoble’s cricket hasn't suffered.

The 22-year-old is seen as an exciting prospect in the twenty twenty format of the game and will be key to UNSW when they take on Gordon at Chatswood Oval on January 10 in the rescheduled Sixers Conference final being livestreamed on dailytelegarph.com.au

With UNSW for the past four years, the pace bowler has worked his way up from second to first grade and is now their T20 opener.

“Premier Cricket is a great opportunity to improve your game,’’ said Scoble, who was born in Inverell and this year completed his degree in Environmental Studies at UNSW.

“You come up against top players and it's a great breeding ground.

“If I can string a few good performances together you never know what can happen but I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn.

“Last season I started opening in T20 and my batting has come along in the last 12 months.’’

Scoble said he has always loved the game and remembers vividly making his first rep team.

“I remember in the under 10s I got a phone call from the coach who told me I was in the overall rep team. I don’t think I have ever been so stoked,’’ he said.

“I just worked my way up from there. I started playing in the men’s comp when I was 12 or 13. It was a little intimidating at first but I knew most of my opposition because it was a small town.’’

Scoble said he and his teammates are looking forward to their battle with Gordon.

“They are a young side but exciting and going quite well in the first grade comp as well as the T20.

“It’s going to be a tough game at Chatswood.

Coach Corey Richards said the club had access to BBL stars Dan Christian and Chris Tremain but key to the success this season has been the development of young players like Scoble.

“It’s been the development of the young players who have improved their skills in this format,’’ he said.

“Everyone has contributed. That’s why we have got into the finals of the conference. “Everyone knows their roles, we are a very good fielding team.’’
