Tiwi Bombers joint senior coach Jamie Scrymgour and assistants Kevin Baxter and Thomas Simon have been suspended by his club for alleged umpire abuse after Saturday’s loss to Palmerston on Saturday.

THREE Tiwi Bombers coaches have been suspended by their own club and will face the NTFL tribunal after chaotic scenes following the Tiwi’s Round 10 loss to Palmerston on Saturday.

Joint senior coach Jamie Scrymgour and assistants Kevin Baxter and Thomas Simon are alleged to have abused the officiating umpires resulting in the police escorting the umpires off the field.

The three coaches have been charged with using loud language that could be heard more than 50 metres away and was rated as a threat and was referred directly to the tribunal.

AFLNT Operations Manager Leigh Elder acknowledged the incident but was also pleased to see how proactive the Bomber had been in reaction to the case.

“We’re certainly aware that three coaches from the Tiwi Bombers have been reported for abuse towards umpires and we’re very glad to hear the club has been proactive in actually taking action against the coaches,” he said.

The suspensions mean the remaining joint coach Shane Tipuamantimirri will lead the club in his own right when the Tiwis meet Wanderers on Saturday with assistants Brenton Toy and Dean Rioli.

Tiwi Bombers president Mary Dunn confirmed her board had placed four-game suspensions on Scrymgour and assistants Baxter and Simon.

“We don’t condone that type of behaviour and we have to abide by the rules of the AFL,’’ Dunn told the NT News.

“As a result of the suspensions we’ve appointed two other assistant coaches in Toy and Rioli, who will provide great support for Tipuamantimirri in his sole coaching of the side.

“We’re also supporting the suspended coaches following an unfortunate incident where frustration played its part and remember, we’re not the only team who get frustrated with umpires.

“There has to be consistency when free kicks are paid to one side and not the other.

“But we’ll move forward with this. They (coaches) are leaders in our community and that is the main thing we need to remind them time and again.

“There are a lot of people who look up to them as coaches of the Tiwi Bombers and the role they play in everything to do with the Tiwi Islands.”

The Tiwis’ past president and life member Allan McGill confirmed the club’s board headed by president Mary Dunn has suspended the coaching trio pending a league investigation into the post-match incident.

“This is the sort of behaviour no club should tolerate, particularly when the Tiwi Bombers are supposed to be the opposite of these incidents,’’ McGill said.
