Fighting through the rain and dangerous conditions, Darwin’s Joel Kelso has come out triumphant in a weekend marred by poor weather at the Phillip Island Grand Prix.
Recording his first podium finish in Moto3, the Territorian pulled off a brave third place finish after starting second on the grid.
Having battled through the chilly 13C temperature, cyclonic wind and pouring rain, the 20-year-old was so excited with his finish that he dropped an f-bomb during his post-race interview.
“It’s bloody brilliant, mate. I’m over the moon,’’ he said.
“It was tricky conditions and I thought, gee whiz, we’d have to f***ing go for it.
“I thought we were on for a win but anyway we just made a little mistake so we just put it in the bag to get it home safely.’’
The first rider to podium in Moto3 since current Moto1 rider Jack Miller back in 2014, Kelso was certainly riding on a wave of emotions, having singed on with Boe Motorsports Moto3 for the upcoming 2024 season.
