TRACY Village Jets star Jerron Jamerson believes his young squad is more than ready to take on rivals Eagles in a top-of-the-table clash in Round 18 of the Darwin Basketball Championship on Thursday night.

Jets have been in strong form all season with their most recent result being a 139-56 win over a struggling Uni Rebels last Thursday night.

Bates class leads ruthless Eagles to win over Palmerston

A large part of that form has come down to the standout performances of their young guns who have only seen their game enhanced since Jamerson joined the side.

“We’re going all right at the moment, getting it all sorted and gelling at the right time ahead of finals,” Jamerson told the NT News.

“I look forward to these big games against the likes of Eagles or Ansett, the super competitive kind that go right down to the wire.

“Us having everyone for these final games will be massive and give us a big lift from previous rounds.

“The young guys at Jets go really well around the court and that suits how I play.

“The way they play is fantastic and that’s only enhanced with me as I know how and where to find them which comes down to how we’re gelling.”

Eagles have been the form side in recent weeks having extended their streak to 14 with a win over Palmerston.

Chris Elder and Ambros Eugster bring plenty of intensity and aggression, while Joseph Jackson has been a force on the rebound.

But Jamerson has faith that his young squad can step up once again with Thomas Malseed, Will Burton, Ned Stevens and recent addition Adam Marjoram all geared up for a big game.

“Eagles are a tough side and part of that is how aggressive they can be on the basket,” Jamerson said.

“They’re always attacking, particularly Chris, so you have to stop that.

“And they’re also always getting into those rebounds with Joseph in particular being one you have to keep off the rebounds.

“If we can do that while making the shots that we usually make and turn our pressure into defence into a strong offence we will be fine.”

Meanwhile in other men’s league action, Essington eyes a crucial match-up against Palmerston Power on Thursday night, which could very well decide its finals fate.

And in the women’s side of the draw, top-two sides Lightning and Tracy Village will face off.
