Jason Yu has etched his name into the history books with a performance akin to those double his age.

The Darwin local – who turned 15 a couple of days after the snooker tournament’s conclusion – won his third junior national title on the trot in January with an undefeated tournament.

“My ultimate goal was to win the championship,” the teenager said.

“Overall, I am proud of my consistency during the tournament.

“I achieved seven breaks over 30 points, including two over 55.

“This tournament is by far my best performance, and I am very pleased with it.”

A game of immeasurable skill and concentration that takes many decades to master, Yu is doing everything in his power to achieve just that.

And not only did he win the U15 title, he also took out the U18 title as well.

Strict training regimes and seeking out lessons abroad, Yu’s accomplishments are no fluke.

“Regular training is crucial,” he said.

“It helps build muscle memory.

“Furthermore, confidence is key to persevering during tough moments.

“I spent six weeks at a snooker academy in Southern China around Christmas.

“Apart from that, preparation is ongoing to maintain good skills. It’s essential to seek opportunities to play against better players to challenge myself.

Still in the infancy of his career, Yu has his sights set on conquering the world with his first stop the Asian Championships.

“For the near future, I will be participating in the Asia Pacific Regional Championships in Sydney this March and at the National U21 Championships in Melbourne in April,” he said.

“I do hope to become a professional player, but my parents want me to obtain a degree first.”

Well on his way to achieving his dream, the wunderkind also finished second at the U18 Junior Singles Eight Ball nationals and was named Player of the Carnival.

Yu was also selected as one of six players in the Australian Junior Team of 2024.
