Southside Racing announces slot-holders for The Meteorite and The Supernova

Big-name trainers, owners, race clubs and studs are among the 14 inaugural slot-holders for Southside Racing’s slot series.

Southside Racing has received a strong endorsement for Australia’s first slot series with leading trainers, owners and bookmakers invested in the $1m The Meteorite and $1m The Supernova.

Ciaron Maher, Peter Moody and Lindsay Park are among the 14 inaugural slot-holders set to contest the marquee races at Cranbourne and Pakenham respectively on November 23 and December 21.

Tony Ottobre, owner of superstar Pride Of Jenni, is among prominent identities to back the concept, along with OTI Racing and Sheamus Mills Bloodstock.

Ladbrokes Racing Club acquired a slot, along with Moonee Valley Racing Club and Melbourne Racing Club, in conjunction with Sportsbet.

Southside Racing also bought a slot, at a cost of $100,000 a year for three years.

Southside general manager Alastair Dwyer celebrated the announcement.

“We are thrilled to officially welcome this incredible group of slot holders into our inaugural running of the Southside Slot Series,” Dwyer said.

“Their participation brings even more prestige and excitement to what promises to be a landmark event for racing in the southeast.”

Each slot holder has the opportunity to participate in both The Meteorite and The Supernova, either with the same horse or by selecting a different contender for each event.

Southside chief executive Neil Bainbridge welcomed the support.

“The Southside Slot Series is unlike anything we’ve seen before in Australian racing, and the calibre of slot holders reflects the industry’s enthusiasm for this groundbreaking format,” Bainbridge said.

A “special bonus” for the slot-holder who accrues the most points across both races is on the cards.

Southside has committed to raising $20,000 for local charities and community groups during the Slot Series.
