A rare opportunity arose this week to swing aboard Mr Brightside’s quest for a seventh Group 1 win – but $275,000 wasn’t enough to snap up an 8 per cent share in the Team Hayes-trained champion.
An 8 per cent share in Mr Brightside failed to meet its $280,000 reserve on Inglis Digital today, with a final bid made at $275,000 before the sale ended.
A bid of $100,000 had been made on Friday last week, with bids breaching the $200,000 barrier early Wednesday.
But after 33 bids had been made, the offered amount was still $5000 short of the $280,000 reserve, which values the gelding at $3.5 million.
A rising seven-year-old, Mr Brightside has so far netted connections $13.4 million in a 34-start career featuring six Group 1 wins. The owner of the 8% share that was up for sale would have so far earned $906k in prizemoney.

The sale of the 8 per share in Mr Brightside came about following a change in circumstances for the current owner. Co-trainer Ben Hayes, however, was confident that Mr Brightside still had plenty of thrills left for connections.
Mr Brightside’s spring kick-off will be in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on August 31.
