SCOTT Pendlebury’s bounce on a pigeon was one of the more unusual footy photos seen in years — and Herald Sun photographer Michael Klein was on the ball in capturing the unique moment.
The image was a first for our man ‘Kleiny’, a Herald Sun photographer for 32 years — 18 of which have been spent shooting sport.

The veteran snapper said it wasn’t until he glanced at the MCG scoreboard that he realised he may have something special.

“I didn’t immediately realise I’d taken a photo of the ball on the pigeon until I saw it on the big screen at the MCG and I realised I did take a picture of Scott Pendlebury bouncing the ball,” Klein said.
“I looked back through the pictures on the camera and saw that I did have the pigeon.”
Klein, one of the best in the business, said shooting AFL football was special as he shared his thoughts on:
HIS FAVOURITE ATHLETE TO SHOOT?
“Probably Serena Williams, because you never know really what you’re going to get.
“She has so much raw power and she wears her heart on her sleeve.
“It’s always a highlight, come January, when you know that she’s coming to town.”
BEING AN AFL PHOTOGRAPHER:
“The best thing about shooting AFL is the unpredictability of what’s going to happen
“In a lot of sports you sort of know how it’s going to play out but in the AFL you never know when Jeremy Howe is going to stand on someone’s head or when Buddy’s going to kick one from 65m or when Tom Mitchell is going to get 50 possessions.
“It’s probably the unpredictability (that I love) and the excitement of getting a really good picture.
HIS FAVOURITE FOOTY PIC:
“Being a lifelong Bulldogs supporter (my favourite) picture would be the moment that Bob Murphy and Easton Wood held up the cup.
“It’s a day that I’ll never forget, being in the rooms after the game and amongst all the boys that I’ve got to know.
“It was just a memorable experience. I’m very lucky and that would probably be my favourite picture hanging up in my house.”
ON BEING IN THE WRONG PLACE:
“A couple of times I’ve been cleaned up.
“The most memorable was when Alex Fasolo cleaned me up, gave me a sore nose in front of 95,000 people at the ‘G.
“That’s probably not the best time to get cleaned up.”
