Any hope of a return for LIV players to PGA Tour events could be another year away after the latest reveal in the US.

There will be no convergence of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf in 2025 after confirmation of just one change to the PGA Tour calendar for next season and commissioner Jay Monahan unable to give a clear update on “complicated discussions” with the Saudi PIF over the future landscape.

The rival tours are both in action in separate parts of the US this week, with the penultimate event of the third LIV season taking place in West Virginia while the $100m PGA Tour playoffs begin in Memphis.

The full 39-event PGA Tour schedule for 2025, including eight “signature events” that will all feature $30m in prizemoney, was unveiled at the St Jude Classic as Monahan maintained an element of silence when it came to ongoing talks about what the future of the game may look like.

Last-start LIV winner, and former world No.1 Jon Rahm, has declared his hope he could get back to playing some of the PGA Tour’s signature events in the near future, but Monahan made no mention of a coming together anytime soon.

“At the moment, those are the changes. I don’t know as we get into the fall that there will be other things we want to talk about or look at, whether it’s for next year or for the future,” he said.

“These are very complicated discussions. There are a lot of elements to them.

“But when you have the level of interaction, when you’re continuing to meet, move forward and discuss and innovate, you can’t be anything other than hopeful.

“As it relates to times and timeframes and where we are, I’d just say that we’re in a good place with the conversations. That’s the most important thing.”

The opening round of the LIV event at Greenbrier will be the breakaway tour’s 100th competition round, having built significant momentum since the first event in the UK in 2022.

Major championship wins by LIV stars Brooks Koepka and Bryson de Chambeau and luring the likes of Rahm on nine-figure deals have given the fledgling tour, fronted by Australian legend Greg Norman, growing influence on the world of golf.

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, one of LIV’s first signings, said the advancement was not only welcome justification for his decision to move but had “changed the face of golf” in the process and was helping push the game to a better, potentially more unified place.

“Yeah, this is exciting times. When I think about going through the motions of deciding I wanted to come to LIV, I thought about the 10-year plan, on paper, what the goals were, and it’s met my expectations. It’s been better than that,” he said.

“We’ve changed the face of golf, so to be on that side of history is pretty special.

“I know years ago when the PGA Tour made that same decision, and when I’m saying years ago, we’re talking ’50s, ’40s, whatever year Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus and them made the other tour, so we’re a part of that. It’s an honour and a privilege to say I’m a part of that. “Scottie Scheffler has made a lot of money this year because of the changes that we’ve started putting in place.

“I believe that golf is actually growing in the right spot, and I think team golf is here to stay, so I’m excited for the next few events, the next few years.”
