The 2023 National Netball Championships is well underway with teams from across the country gathered in Darwin to take home the main prize.
It has been a tough campaign for the host team with both the under-17s and under-19s suffering early losses in the tournament but they’ve gone down fighting.
The event has drawn plenty of spectators with the NSW contingent the biggest.
The Territory’s under-19 side almost pulled off an upset win against NSW, going down 35-41 to the team in blue.
The NT has also lost matches to Victoria (22-52), Queensland (23-48), ACT (25-35) and South Australia (20-49) with fixtures against Tasmania and Western Australia to follow.
The under-17’s side has stood tall despite losses of their own and will finish their tournament against Tasmania and South Australia.
Netball NT executive officer Penny Shearer previously called it “very special” for Darwin to host the event.
“For them to be able to showcase their skills in front a home crowd is even more special, with families being able to support loved ones in person,” Shearer said.
“This is a significant opportunity for our entire netball community to be involved in.”
