ST MARY’S turn one eye to the upcoming finals series after dominating the Tiwi Bombers 26.26 (182) to 6.3 (39) in Round 17 of the NTFL.

Saints kicked off with all the momentum feeding the ball quickly to Jackson Calder and Nate Paredes who sealed the opening points for the side with only one loss from their previous ten games.

Then came a rare sight for the 2020-21 season – a period of scoring dominance from the Bombers inspired by a Brendan Kantilla goal kicking off a three-goal run seeing the side temporarily in front.

However, the ascendancy would not last and soon enough Saints were back in front with Calder and Jack Landt enjoying a field day upfront.

Dylan Landt provided plenty of ball across the field moving into the midfield from his usual position in the backs while Paredes and Lachlan Taylor offered their side plenty of run

A barrage of behinds early in the second period will have the side looking at their accuracy, but with Jack Landt scoring six goals and Calder eight the win was never in question.

“It’s pretty good to get the win with a big margin but it’s tough coming into games like that, you have to feel for Tiwi, but we just had to get through with it,” Calder told the Sunday Territorian.

“Tiwi came out pretty strong, credit to them, so we just had to get into gear and look at what we want to be doing going into finals.

“It felt good to get eight goals, I haven’t played deep too much this year so it was good to get on the end of a few with that being the most I’ve got in one game up here.

“We just need to keep winning now obviously, we have a lot to prove after last year so we just have to keep winning and look to go all the way.”

The Bombers exposed a couple of defensive frailties in the third quarter with John Tipiloura and Gilbert Alimankinni both bagging goals though that was the end of the Bombers scoring.
