GOLD Coast utility Jasmyn Hewett is expecting a massive game from her side ahead of its first ever home game against Richmond at Metricon Stadium today.
Harsh weather dampened the Suns’ AFLW debut against GWS last week, the new women’s outfit losing by a single point in the low-scoring contest.
Hewett is hopeful the rain stays away this week so that her side can give a better account of itself.
“Last weekend was a great crack for us but because it was raining, it wasn’t what we wanted it to be skill wise,” Hewett said.
“I took confidence from the weekend and will hopefully learn from that.
“It’s always hard in the first game as we get a feel for the speed of the game.
“You always want to do it for the supporters, and they haven’t seen anything yet. We’re going to bring the sunshine and we’re going to do it in style.
“Each game this fantastic group is going to improve and hopefully make everyone on the Coast proud.”
Hewett is one of four players on the Gold Coast roster to have played with Territory NTFL sides, the others being Jordann Hickey, Tayla Thorn and Sally Riley.
The 26-year-old started with St Mary’s in 2016 in what was her first proper experience with the sport, and her playing career has skyrocketed since then.
After a period with Adelaide, Hewett is now enjoying life on the Gold Coast, where she is predominantly being used in the ruck and up forward.
“I just want to really enjoy it and take the opportunities not just inside of footy but outside of footy as well,” Hewett said.
“I’m just going to make the most of this time here in this part of Australia that I haven’t lived or been before.
“Living life and enjoying what I love which is footy.”
The Suns men’s team has announced its first AFL line-up of 2020, which will face Brisbane Lions in a practice match scheduled for tonight, following the AFLW clash at Metricon.
Territorian Malcolm Rosas Jr is set to feature in the side for the first time after last year’s pre-draft selection.
