EDDIE Betts will make his NTFL debut for Palmerston against Southern Districts on Sunday, November 7.

The former Carlton and Adelaide goalsneak told the NT News the Round 6 game against the Crocodiles will be his first NTFL appearance.

The 34-year-old booted 640 goals in 350 appearances for the Blues and the Crows in his 16-year career at the top level and he wants to add to his goal tally in a Magpie jumper.

“The first thing for me is working up here and that means going out to the communities and speaking to people on healthy lifestyles,’’ Betts said.

“But I love the game of footy, it’s why I thought I’d throw the boots on for Palmerston.

“I won’t play this week after getting out of quarantine on Saturday when Palmerston plays this Sunday (against St Mary’s on TIO No. 2).

“While St Mary’s have been putting it all over their Facebook I’m playing against them, it will actually be the week after when I play my first game against Southern Districts at Palmerston’s home ground (Cazaly’s Arena).

“Harry Taylor should be playing for Districts, so it will be two Geelong coaches against each other.’’

Betts said his close relationship with the Davey brothers, Alwyn and Aaron, has landed him at Magpieland.

“Our families are pretty close, the same with Joey Anderson at the Buffaloes who I’m pretty close to as well, that was one reason I almost went to Buffs, because of Joey.

“But the main reason I’m at Palmerston is the Davey boys and my mate Tyrone played there as well.

“Alwyn (Froggy) is playing Division 1 at the moment and he is the reason I’ve come up here, to play footy with him, so hopefully he’ll be right to go in the league side when I get out.’’

Betts also confirmed he will train with the Magpies for the first time next Tuesday (November 2) to get some run into his legs.

“It’s why I’m not playing this week, I can’t run so I need to do a couple of sessions

to get myself right,’’ he said.

“I know it’s going to be hot, that’s why I won’t be leaving the 50 metre line and I’ve told Josh (coach Josh Heath) they’ll have to kick the ball into me.’’

Betts wants to play as many games as he can while in the Top End.

“I want to play as much as I can bearing in mind I have to go back (to Melbourne) in January to start work with my media requirements and coaching duties with Geelong.’’
