Popular football content creator Olan Tekkers has been slammed for his Women’s World Cup and NRLW videos, which critics claim are “misogynistic” and “vile”.

In one video encouraging people to watch the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Olan Tekkers lists five players, including Australia’s Ellie Carpenter.

In a second video about the women’s State of Origin, Tekkers discusses several players “talented on and off the pitch”.

The tone of Tekkers videos caught the ire of plenty online who suggested the videos judged the women on their looks.

“Beggars belief that the APL are willing to work with these kinds of “content creators.” The state of this, vile,” one fan shared.

“One of the hardest watches,” another added.

One fan of Tekkers called out the creator, saying, “I enjoy a lot of your content and am sure you’ve provided a lot of exposure for Aussie sport.

“I also think you could have done better in how you chose to characterise women’s football in that video. That’s not being cancelled. Both things can be true at once,” they added.

Others agreed it was not good enough, given Trekker’s previous commercial ties to the Australian Professional Leagues (A-leagues).

“You were being misogynistic in a few videos, as someone like you who has a bigger name in the space, someone who has worked with A-league clubs, should know better. Not trying to cancel you, people are just holding you accountable,” one pointed out.

“You could put your hand up and apologise for the misogynistic theme of your video instead of getting defensive about it,” said another.

Others, however, saw no issue.

“I don’t really see how that’s a problem. Don’t male athletes always get sexualised too? It also really wouldn’t affect the footballers at hand and he obviously keeps in touch with the women’s games,” a fan said.

“Ride it out bro. The mob will never stop looking for targets,” said another.

Tekkers, who is from the United Kingdom but has been living in Sydney for years, defended the tweets.

“I’ve made over 3000 videos in the past years based around sport, football, NPL, NRL, AFL etc,” he said.

“If you can only pick out two videos that you dislike and due to that I should be cancelled. I think I’ve done a good job mate.”

Responding to one fan who appeared upset by the videos, Tekkers wrote, “I hear you and I’ll take on that feedback on bro.”
