The son of Socceroos legend Tim Cahill has signed with A-League club Brisbane Roar.

Shae Cahill, 18, has joined the Roar on a multi-season deal after spending the past four years with the English Premier League club Everton’s academy.

“Securing such a promising young midfielder is a testament to our club’s new vision of integrating youthful talent into our squad and first team environment,” Roar chief executive officer Kaz Patafta.

“Shae’s addition promises an exciting era ahead for the Roar family.”

Last season, Cahill made nine appearances for the Everton under-18 team.

His father Tim – an Everton great who scored 50 goals in 108 appearances for the Socceroos – expressed his delight following the announcement of the signing.

“Very proud of you my man @shaeloucahill,” Tim Cahill posted on Instagram.

“Wishing you all the best. Keep chasing your dream”

Shae is set to make his first appearance for Roar on Wednesday night in a friendly match against the Newcastle Jets in Coffs Harbour.

Roar coach Ross Aloisi said there would be no extra pressure or expectation on the club’s new signing to perform because he was Tim Cahill’s son.

“We didn’t sign Shae because his father is Tim Cahill,” Aloisi said.

“We signed him because he’s a good young footballer that can contribute to what we want to achieve now and in the future.

“He’s also a good kid that will fit into our club’s culture.”
