Australian Ange Postecoglou’s revamped Tottenham side is taking shape after landing midfielder James Maddison but the new boss could be without super striker Harry Kane after the club put a 100 million Euro price tag on his head.
Maddison, who wasn’t able to keep Leicester from relegation last season, still managed to score 10 goals for the struggling side.
The 26-year-old English player is understood to have penned a five-year-deal with Postecoglou’s Tottenham, worth an estimated $40 million pounds with extras.
He will plug a big hole in the Spurs midfield which has sat empty since Christian Eriksen departed in 2020.
Maddison made 208 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 55 goals and helping them lift the FA Cup.
It is the club’s third signing this transfer window, with deals also struck with winter Dejan Kulusevski and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario signing on.
Postecoglou is set to officially start at the club next week and his main focus will no doubt be trying to keep superstar Kane on the books.
Kane, 29 is in the final year of his contract so if he doesn’t sign an extension with the Spurs the club risk losing out on a big transfer fee next summer.
Bayern Munich have agreed to personal terms with the England captain but as reported on Wednesday by German daily Bild, the initial $70 million euro offer was knocked back by Tottenham – who have reportedly demanded no less than 100 million.
Kane’s camp is believed to have approved the move, but Bayern need an agreement on a fee with Tottenham to seal the transfer.
The striker also been linked to Manchester United and Real Madrid this transfer window.
Spurs don’t have another standout No. 9 on their roster so if Kane were to leave Postecoglou would have to race to sign someone before the season starts.
There are options for Postecoglou with Victor Osimhen up for grabs from Napoli, French striker Randal Koulo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund from Atlanta.
Tottenham will host a friendly fixture with Shakhtar Donetsk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 6.
Funds from the match will go towards Shakhtar’s charitable foundation to help with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country last year.
