Football flag winner Lateesha Jeffrey excited to take on new challenge with Hoggies in Darwin A-grade netball

AFTER captaining Southern Districts FC to a historic victory in the Women’s Premier League, Lateesha Jeffrey turns her eyes to netball where she hopes to help bring similar success to her new side Hoggies.

AFTER captaining Southern Districts FC to a historic victory in the Women’s Premier League, Lateesha Jeffrey turns her eyes to netball where she hopes to help bring similar success to her new side Hoggies.

With no Territory Thunder football because of the COVID-19 crisis, Jeffrey decided to return to netball, a sport she last played competitively about four years ago while in Swan Hill.

Now the star hopes to bring her attacking prowess to the 2018 Darwin A-grade premiers, who are looking to return to the top.

“I’m pretty excited to be playing for Hoggies. It’s been a long time since I played netball and they’re a competitive side,” Jeffrey said.

“I think I’m definitely more attacker-minded from footy, so I would hope to bring that to the side while learning a bit more about defence.”

The daughter of footy legend Russell Jeffrey said she has been keeping herself in shape during the enforced time away from team training. Jeffrey fondly remembers Districts’ win over Waratah in the 2019-20 Women’s Premier League final, though admitted with the COVID-19 crisis it now feels distant.

“It feels like a lifetime ago but I’ve still got the flag hung up in my room so I have that physical reminder every day,” Jeffrey said.

“But it’s one for the entire team and everyone who took part in our success. I’ve only been at the club for three seasons but it was an historic moment for the club.”
