THE Territory’s first Supercar driver had a mixed day in his first drive around Darwin’s Hidden Valley.

Bryce Fullwood, the youngster who grew up idolising big names like Jamie Whincup, was racing against him.

But the mechanical gremlins that have broken thousands of drivers hearts, including a basic flat battery, flattened his hometown debut.

A 21st place finish meant he completed the 38-lap race, but his car was working at less than 100 per cent.

“I had an issue in the pits with a flat battery, but luckily they managed to get it going before the start,’’ he said.

“I’m always nervous before the start of a race and it was a really tough day for me.

Our car wasn’t so good and with the schedule so close you don’t have time to work on it.

“We kind of just had to live with it this time in what was a really difficult race.

“But we’ll take some changes overnight and hopefully Sunday is a new day.’’

The 22-year-old Top Ender was not surprised at the amount of race carnage.

“Darwin always turns it up and with so many of the corners inviting you to go for a late drive under someone trouble can find you,’’ he said.

Corners five, six and seven around the Valley are hard because you have to be on preferred side of the track when you go into them.
