DARWIN Sistaz picked up where they left off kicking off their 2021 NRL NT campaign with a dominant 36-0 win over Litchfield Bears.

The 2020 undefeated premiers got right to business in the opening round attacking from the off and finding plenty of chances to push forward with ball in hand.

And it was last season’s top try scorer and Gaynor Maggs Medal winner Latoniya Norris who was first to dot over the line after taking a handy pass from Bianca Stokes and finding room down the left wing.

Sistaz didn’t slow down from there fronting up against the Bears’ defence to push down the field at every opportunity.

And it was Norris that continued to show her pedigree staking an early claim for another try scoring season adding another two tries to her name before the half.

Litchfield showed intent when they had their time on the ball but handling errors and fierce defence from an uncompromising Sistaz outfit went against them.

The second half was much the same with Tishara Cahill crossing the white paint from kick off and debutant Tyla Kingdon added her first of two tries soon after.

A Jade Jones-Cubillo score and a fourth from Norris was enough to show that the Sistaz will once mean business in the 2021 season.

Despite the score line Bears continued to push for a score to avoid the whitewash with Shari Togo pushing for gaps across the field.

Though some strong defensive efforts from half back Tahlia Corrie across the ground held the Bears back.

Captain Bianca Scrymgour was proud of her side’s first up effort particularly in seeing big performances from the sides’ debutants in Erica Kurnoth and Kingdon.

“It’s been exciting all week leading up to this game and to have a few girls debut and others return just makes this win more exciting,” Scrymgour told the Sunday Territorian.

“Communication was masisve for us with a lot of new people in the side. So it was about sticking to our game plan and making sure we were communicating and supporting each other.

“The first game is always dusting off the cobwebs so each week we just need to keep on working on the little things so we can be the best team out there.”
