Darwin driver Rossi Johnson looking for dream 2023 finish

After an indifferent 2023 season, Darwin’s Rossi Johnson is looking for dream finish at this year’s Bathurst weekend.

Hailing from Howard Springs, 21-year-old driver Rossi Johnson is hoping for a dream finish at this year’s Bathurst weekend after a rather middle-of-the-road season.

Racing in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 series, Johnson has found success at Mount Panorama picking up a tidy 13th place in a race last year, despite the heavy downfall.

“It’s raining heavily just like last year which suits me because I love these conditions,” Johnson said while sheltering from the rain in a truck at the mountain.

“Bathurst is a very difficult track, so anything I can get an advantage from will help.”

Racing in a 35-car field, Johnson said the track was not to be messed around with, and was full of danger.

“You’ve always got to pinch yourself whenever you race here (Mount Panorama), but the close walls, elevation, tight turns and the 34 other cars make it difficult to navigate,” he said.

“The elevation is the big one.

“The TV doesn’t do it justice.”

Driving the 333 car, Johnson is hopeful of a tidy end to the season following a year full of problems.

“This season has been not that great to say the least,” he said.

“From mechanical problems to the car catching on fire and having a couple of tough races, “I’d love to finish the year with a podium or a top five finish.”

Johnson will take to the track with two practice runs, then will have qualifiers on Friday plus a race.
