THE Darwin Buffaloes have been dealt a midseason blow with their captain and potential Nichols medal favourite Jarrod Stokes suspended for two weeks for striking.
Stokes was charged with striking Waratah player Callum Searle in the fourth quarter of Buff’s 13.5 (83) to 9.6 (60) loss to the Tahs in Round 8 of the 2020-21 NTFL.

The incident was classified as intentional conduct with medium impact and body contact with a two-match penalty.
The skipper was originally offered a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea but instead opted to go to the tribunal.
There Stokes pleaded guilty to the charge and received a two-match suspension, with one week wholly suspended.
Southern Districts player Luke Kiel also appeared before the tribunal to answer the charge of rough conduct which originally saw him facing a two-match penalty.
The charge was classified as intentional conduct with low impact and high contact, however upon review of the video evidence the tribunal asserted there was insufficient force and withdrew the charge.
Division one Leigh Mcwhirter player of Tracy Village also faced the tribunal after being charged with striking Waratah’s Timothy Smith in the fourth quarter of Round 8.

Mcwhirter’s incident originally resulted in a three-match penalty which was withdrawn by the tribunal based on lack of evidence.
