IT has so far been a year to remember for star young Lightning basketball player April Rummery Lamb.
She helped the NT Boundless Possible girls’ team to a history-making maiden triumph at the NBL 3x3 Under-18 Hustle in Geelong in April, alongside fellow young talents Ieasha Friel, Tyla Cubillo and Leah Seden.
That same month, April helped Lightning beat Tracy Village 74-58 in the women’s Darwin Basketball Challenge final, scoring 20 points before her team snapped the Jets’ amazing 13-title winning streak.
And from this weekend until to July 30 she will participate in the Global Squad camp in Pennsylvania in the US.
It is the premier program for young players seeking elite training in their ambitions to play at college level or professionally in America.
The camp will feature over 100 of the best young international players from around the world, with over 70 per cent going on to forge careers at college level or professionally in the US.
April has an ambition to play in the world’s top women’s competition the WNBA in the next few years, and this camp can help her get there. “I’m pretty excited about this. I would love that (to play in the WNBA) and there will be college scouts at the camp,” she said.
Just 17, April is revelling in the extra responsibility at Lightning at such a young age.
Her field goal percentage is an impressive 48.28 so far this Championship season. “We want to keep doing well and go undefeated” she said.
