Australia’s quest for a historic cross-format triple crown has failed, with the Aussies missing the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup for the fourth time in their last five starts at the event.

A tournament that had started so promisingly for Australia with five straight wins including a comprehensive defeat of reigning champions England came a cropper inside 48 hours, with defeats to Afghanistan and India sending Australia to the brink before Bangladesh bungled a small chase to extinguish Aussie hopes.
