The NSW Swifts will be without their co-captain Maddy Proud this season after the former Diamonds midcourter announced she is expecting her first child.

Proud and partner, NSW cricketer Daniel Hughes, took to social media on Friday to share their happy news with a picture of Proud’s scan, a baby onesie and a cricket bat and netball.

“Daniel and I are so excited to be welcoming a new addition to our family in May 2025,” Proud said in an Instagram post.

“I am so grateful to the @nswswifts family for all their love and support and I can’t wait to watch the girls dominate next season. See you back out there in 2026 with an extra Swiftee in the stands.”

The Swifts made their own post, sharing the “joyous news”.

“Our co-captain and double Premiership champion Maddy Proud has announced that she is expecting her first child in 2025.

“Everyone at the Club would like to send our best wishes to Maddy and her partner Daniel. This is the most wonderful news for them both and we are so excited to welcome another little Swiftee into the world next year.”

While no announcement has been made on Proud’s replacement, the club could choose to elevate Lili Gorman-Brown, a member of the club’s full-time list last season who was not offered a contract for 2025.

Gorman-Brown remains a training partner though and would come into the mix seamlessly, having played extended minutes over the past two years with the squad, including in the 2023 grand final.

Proud and Hughes travelled Europe in the Super Netball off-season this year, ahead of Hughes returning to country cricket club Sussex before he was recalled by NSW.

Despite Proud’s absence, the Swifts are likely to remain among the favourites for the Super Netball title after adding New Zealand star Grace Nweke to their roster for 2025.
