THE late Bill Passmore will always be remembered as a man of great integrity who had a deep passion for PINT’s cricket and football clubs.

A long time patron, sponsor and supporter of anything to do with the green and gold of PINT, Bill Passmore passed away on Wednesday morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 71.

His close friends Jack Coady and John Marshall visited him in his final days as part of a long association that can be traced back to the mid 1970s in sport and employment at the Darwin Post Office in the city.

Marshall remembers him as a man who could not sit still as a cricketer or a spectator, preferring to score or umpire as his way of contributing that little bit extra.

“Bill would do anything for you,’’ Marshall said.

“I talked him into playing cricket after (Cyclone Tracy) in 1975 and the cricket club has had a lot to thank him for in the 45 years since that time.”

PINT Football Club identity Paul (Spud) Allen said his good friend was always smiling, the “nicest bloke you could ever meet and a very, very proud and humble bloke who would speak to the players and tell them how they were going on the field.

“Bill would drive to Jabiru on his own to watch us play and he was never shy of putting his hand in his pocket to grab a couple of pineapples ($50 notes) to shout the boys after a good performance, especially if we tipped over Banks.

“One other thing about Bill was he definitely had one green eye and the other gold with his love for PINT, there was no other side.”

Bill Passmore is survived by his wife Joy and daughters Nicole and Jasmine.
