Another top-line leg-spinner is headed to the Melbourne Stars with Mitch Swepson leaving Brisbane after 10 seasons and a BBL title at the Heat.
Swepson, who captained the Heat at times in the most recent BBL season, has signed a three-year deal with the Stars to play home games at the MCG.
He’s a welcome addition for the Stars after Joel Paris and Beau Webster returned to their original teams Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes earlier in the BBL’s player movement period which ended at 5pm on Thursday.
The Stars’ early regular season success was built off the back of gun leg-spinners, with Shane Warne and Adam Zampa having regularly led the attack.
Swepson has played four Tests, three One-Day Internationals and eight Twenty20s for Australia.
The Stars did pursue other big-name recruits Tim David and Mitchell Marsh but are both likely to re-sign at their respective clubs.

The Stars pulled off a stunning revival from 0-5 to qualify for the BBL finals but were eliminated by eventual finalist the Sydney Thunder in the first round.
Swepson said he was excited to get the ball in his hands at the MCG.
“First of all I’d like to thank the Brisbane Heat for all the opportunities they gave me and kick-starting my T20 career,“ Swepson said.
“I’ll be forever grateful for all of the support they’ve given me and my family over the years.
“I’m really excited to sign for the Stars and watching from afar this year, the team took some huge steps forward.
“I can’t wait to head to Melbourne and the MCG next summer and get stuck in to working with Stoin, Peter Moores and the team.”
