STAR Tracy Village allrounder Josh Kann will bring an “X-factor” to the Hobart Hurricanes which could help the side break through for its first ever Big Bash title.
That is the opinion of Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania talent manager, Jamie Cox.
The 21-year-old, who plays for Gold Coast in the southern summer, will be a handy addition to the Hurricanes for their 2021-22 campaign.
And it has been his form for Tracy which impressed the likes of Cox and Hurricanes head coach Adam Griffiths.
Kann's stunning 162 not out from just 153 balls – with nine fours and six sixes – helped his team to a competitive 6-372 against a formidable Waratah line-up in round 13 Darwin Premier Grade action on Saturday.
It was his second ton of the 2021 season.
He now has 631 runs at an average of 70.11, and 14 wickets at 20.71 per scalp in what has been a fine campaign so far in the Top End.
Kann also made a typically classy 142 for Southern Storm in its 36-run win over City Cyclones in round 3 of the Strike League limited overs competition.
“I got a call from Jamie Cox who said ‘I know Josh has been playing really well for Tracy Village – we think he can bring an X-factor to the Hurricanes’,” Tracy Village coach Tony Judd said.
With his near faultless all-round game at first-grade level in Queensland and Darwin, Judd believes Kann can make an instant impression in the Big Bash League.
“Josh is as a clean a striker of the ball that I’ve seen in a while,” Judd said.
“He bats in the top order and gives 150 per cent effort with everything he does.
“He’s only 21 but he’s just the kind of person you want in your dressingroom.
“And the great thing is he’s committed to us until the end of the season – that’s how much he loves playing for Tracy Village.”
After Kann took a stunning 6-9 off eight overs during his team’s massive eight-wicket win over Darwin in round 3, Kann spoke about his desire to take the next step in his career.
“I’d love to get into the Queensland system – it’s a very strong system at the moment,” the Bulls Second XI and Australia under-19 representative said at the time.

But he admitted he was shocked with Griffiths rang him offering him a spot on the Hobart roster.
“Adam said ‘we want to give you an opportunity’ and I was shocked,” Kann said.
“I can’t wait to play alongside guys like Mac Wright, who I’ve been playing with up here (at the Storm), and Matt Wade and Ben McDermott.
“Being coached by Tony Judd and playing at Tracy Village has been the best thing for me.
“And if I can next year, I’d love to come back up and play for Tracy Village again.
“Playing in the Strike League has also been great – it’s like a mini BBL.”
