Glenn Maxwell left stunned by Adam Gilchrist’s brutal World Cup sledge

Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell was left in stunned silence after being nailed by a brutal sledge on a live Big Bash broadcast.

Yes, got him!

Aussie World Cup hero Glenn Maxwell was left in stunned silence after being nailed by an Adam Gilchrist gag during Fox Cricket’s commentary for the Strikers’ clash with the Hurricanes.

Maxwell was infamously ruled out of Australia’s clash with England after suffering a concussion slipping off the back of a golf cart during a break from the tournament late last year in India.

So when the topic turned to golf, and Laurie Evans allegedly having a +2 handicap, Gilchrist was ready with a little jab.

“You could be his caddie, Maxi. You go alright in golf carts, don’t ya?” Gilchrist quipped.

England great Michael Vaughan simply cracked up laughing as the camera cut back to the commentary box showing Gilchrist apologising to Maxwell, who stared into the distance with a mixture of shock and anger.

But the superstar all-rounder quickly saw the lighter side.

“A golf cart wasn’t even involved,” he quipped straight back.

Maxwell then added: “Next game was alright. Felt like I needed to!”

He, of course, scored a spectacular 201* against Afghanistan the next time out.

Maxi can jump on as many golf carts as he wants if he’s gonna keep doing that afterwards.

In the contest, Hurricanes star Nikhil Chaudhary joined the rare ranks of players stumped for a diamond duck in the his side’s five-wicket loss to the Strikers.

The Strikers were all over the Hurricanes, leaving their opponents 4/36 in the seventh over when Chaudhary came to the crease.

Legspinner Cameron Boyce, who had taken the wicket of Corey Anderson the ball before, floated up a leg side ball which saw Chaudhary fall over as he tried to work it down to fine leg.

It dragged his foot forward and onto the crease, but leaving nothing behind, giving the third umpire no choice but to send Chaudhary on his way.

However, he joined a unique group of players to have been dismissed for 0 off 0 balls — also known as a diamond duck — as the ball from Boyce was also called a wide.

On a wide, players can still be stumped or run out, meaning that while it cost the Strikers a run for the wide, it also earned them a wicket, leaving the Hurricanes 5/36.

Alex Carey gets the rare stumping

From 5/36, Ben McDermott blasted the Hurricanes to a competitive score with a 61-ball 95 including seven fours and five sixes to get Hobart to 7/165 off their 20 overs.

Chris Jordan also contributed three sixes in a 15-ball 30 to give McDermott a much needed hand.

In response, the Strikers got off to a flyer reaching 1/57 in the opening four over power play, before reaching 1/100 at the end of the 10th over.

But the quick dismissals of Matt Short (45 off 32) and Chris Lynn (37 off 26) slowed the Strikers up.

However, a 26-ball 36 from Alex Carey all but got the Strikers home as the side cruised home for a five-wicket win with four balls remaining.
