DARWIN opening batsman Anthony Adlam is off to a great start in the Top End, but he is never satisfied.

The talented, tall left-hander has scored 51 and 67 in respective games against Southern Districts and Palmerston, helping his team to a two-from-two record to start the 2021 Darwin Premier Grade season.

The star import from renowned Sydney club Mosman – where Eagles stars Luke Shelton and Ash Doolan also ply their trade – has now put an onus on himself to make hundreds after reaching 50.

“As a top-order batsman I’ve got to be accountable to my teammates to go on and get a big score after getting myself in,” Adlam told the NT News.

And that was his response when asked about no other batsman making a half-century in team scores of just 203 and 7-156 (chasing) against the Crocodiles and Palmerston.

Adlam developed such a competitive mindset as a junior at one of Australia’s most decorated cricket clubs, which Test legends Allan Border and Brett Lee have played for.

“I’ve been at Mosman since I was 10 and I’ve been lucky to have great people around me, including my uncle Warwick who is the Mosman Cricket Club GM,” he said.

“It’s also been a great experience playing with Peter Forrest, and I’m great mates with Shelts and Dools.”

Adlam sees a similar culture at Darwin.

“I’m at a great club up here and Jacob Dickman is a great, calm captain,” he said.

Darwin takes on the winless Tracy Village at Marrara today.

“They’ll put up a good fight because they’re 0-2 and you can never get ahead of yourself in this game,” Adlam said.

“I’ve just been trying to keep it simple and wait for the bad balls.”

The Tigers hosting Waratah at Nightcliff Oval and Palmerston taking on PINT at Cazalys Oval are the other Round 3 games.
