Chris Jordan’s time with the Hobart Hurricanes is set to be extended for a further two seasons.

The BBL franchise has confirmed the English all-rounder as their multi-year overseas player for the next two campaigns.

The Englishman originally joined the Hurricanes as a platinum pick in the BBL13 Draft and went onto win the club’s Player of the Season.

General manager of high performance at Cricket Tasmania Salliann Beams said it had been a “top priority” to have Jordan return to the club.

“He provided our squad with experience, both with bat, ball, and in the field, and showed our squad what professionalism in world T20 cricket looks like,” Beams said.

“He also provided a good balance to our bowling unit, and when paired with Nathan Ellis, we have two of the best death and powerplay bowlers in T20 cricket.

“We also saw what CJ can do at his destructive best with the bat and know that he can play a role for us in the lower order when required.

“I am excited to see what he can do for our franchise over the coming seasons.”

During his first season in purple, Jordan hit the fastest century in the competition off just 17 balls.

Jordan is currently playing a key role for England at the T20 World Cup, taking 4-10 including a hat-trick against the USA to help his side secure their semi-final berth.

“I really enjoyed my time in Hobart and I’m looking forward to returning for the next two years and building on a lot of the good things we did last season,” Jordan said.

“I’m excited to work with such a talented group again and hopefully bring a title to Hobart.”

Jordan joins Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Peter Hatzoglou, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Matthew Wade, Charlie Wakim, and Mac Wright as Hurricanes players under contract ahead of BBL14.

Meanwhile, Tasmania will field a team in August’s Top End T20 Series in Darwin for the first time as part of an expanded league.

With the teams competing increasing from six to nine, the Tigers join the Pakistan Sheehans, a Bangladesh high performance squad, five-time BBL champions Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers, defending champions the NT Strike, ACT Comets and Academy sides from the Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars.

The Top End T20 is the marquee event of the Cricket 365 program which showcases the next generation of Australian players continuing their progression to domestic and international cricket.

Last year Jake Fraser-McGurk and Will Sutherland lit up the Top End T20 before springboarding into the domestic season and earning international debuts during the summer.

The Tigers play the first of six round robin matches before finals against the Strikers on Saturday, August 10.
