India pinched the momentum of the contest in the second session when Jasprit Bumrah went on a tear and left the Australian batting line-up in serious strife.

But then came the tail order with skipper Pat Cummins scoring 41 runs before the 10th wicket partnership of Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland produced the second highest total for Australia against India at home.

Lyon led the way in the 55-run stand as he finished the day’s play with 41 runs to his name, his highest Test score in six years.

India will be left kicking themselves after dropping four catches on day which would have seriously lessened the Australian total.

They’ll need to create history at the MCG if they’re to chase down the Aussie total to take a 2-1 series lead and retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Recap the entire day’s action below.
