LIGHTNING women made it three consecutive Darwin Basketball Championships with a high-scoring 94-66 win over the experienced Tracy Village.
For the past few seasons these two sides have ruled Darwin women’s basketball, and the fiery rivalry continued in another thrilling final.
Lightning and Tracy Village Jets will once again face off in the women’s league final
The reigning premiers – having not played in two weeks – brought all the intensity in the opening quarters out-zoning their rivals.
Lightning captain Claire Maree O’Bryan and the ever-consistent Dom Carbone led the scoring, cementing their side a lead at the half.
Jets fought on with Michelle Ellis working hard in the paint with captain Kylie Duggan. Things continued to go the way of Lightning in the second half, with Kirra Hill-Carter enjoying an electric period under the net.
Lauren Barnes and Kira Pendlebury also found themselves in the scoring, while Sarah Carbone and April Rummery Lamb found plenty of time with ball in hand.
Impressive outings from the experienced Sam Rioli, and young guns Erin Geer and Laleeta Das, will have lifted the Villagers’ spirits, but crucial baskets did not drop.
The night and final belonged to Lightning, playing strong to the death to seal the trophy for another year.
