Carlton rookie kicks stunning goal with first touch

KYM Lebois needed just one touch to put his name up in lights during Carlton’s pre-season clash with the Melbourne Demons.

Not bad for your first kick in the AFL.

Carlton rookie Kym Lebois has come up with a spectacular goal with his first touch of the football in Carlton’s JLT clash with Melbourne at Casey Fields.

Lebois scored his first career goal for the Blues with an audacious banana kick that set the crowd alight early in the opening quarter.

The rookie read the ball well from the pack and threw it onto his boot in unconventional fashion, bending it expertly between the posts for a goal.

It would be Carlton’s only major of the opening term, and it will take some topping throughout the 2017 season.

AFL legend Jason Dunstall was full of acclaim for Lebois effort, hailing its brilliance.

“Not only was it a banana — understand how difficult it is to kick a banana across your body like that,” Dunstall said.

“You’ll kick that one of a 100. One out of 100 — extraordinary stuff. That is exceptional.”

LeBois is an Adelaide product coming out of Port Adelaide’s indigenous academy. The forward is known for his skills, pace and eye for goal and has been likened to former Carlton goal sneak Eddie Betts.

The 18-year-old was taken at pick no. 5 in the pre-season draft and has already given AFL fans a glimpse at his potential with his sensational goal against the Demons.

Fox Footy commentator Danny Frawley was taken aback by the moment of brilliance, amazed at the skill on display by the young Blue.

“A lot of players would have kicked that well over the fence,” Frawley said.

“This is the beauty of the JLT, you get to see these kids against the big boys, it’s fantastic.”

Lebois may be young in his career but may already have an award up his sleeve in just his first game.

“That would be goal of the season if this was the regular season,” Dunstall said.

A fairly big claim from a man who knows a thing of two about kicking spectacular goals.

There’s no doubt Lebois is one to watch.
