The Northern Territory will have two Kookaburras and one Hockeyroo flying the banner at the Paris Olympics in under a month’s time.
Darwinite and 208-gamer Brooke Peris has been selected for her third Olympics, having played at the 2016 Rio and 2020 (2021) Tokyo Games.
The call up means Peris now has bragging rights over cousin Nova who won gold with the Hockeyroos in the 1996 Atlanta games and competed in Athletics at the 2000 Sydney games.
“It hasn’t quite sunk in yet,” Peris said.
“It’s been a big journey and I’ve loved every moment.
“I have a really good feeling about it this time around, we’re in such a good place and I’m in a good place and I’m very excited.
“I’m very grateful that I get to be part of this team and we’re just ready to go.”
Peris’ brother and Nightcliff Tiger Jonathan was over the moon to see his sister headed to her third Olympics in a row, and is in awe of his siblings success.
“We are extremely excited for Brooke, and proud is an understatement,” he said.
“It has been fantastic to watch her journey over the years, from representing the NT to joining the Australian Under-21 team, and then the Hockeyroos.
“This year, Brooke reaching her 200th game was a great milestone, and now, heading to her third Olympics is an unbelievable achievement.
“We are so proud of Brookie and can’t wait to watch her in Paris.”
Fellow Darwinite Jeremy Hayward has received his second Olympic call up following his selection for the Tokyo games.
The Waratah HC junior and registered teacher will be hungrier than ever as he and his Kookaburra teammates chase the gold medal after losing in the final in the most agonising fashion in a shootout to Belgium.
Joining Hayward on the Kookaburras is Tokyo teammate Tom Wickham, who netted the ‘Burras lone goal in the final.
Born south of the border in Morgan, SA, the 34-year-old spent much of his childhood in Alice Springs before taking an AIS scholarship, settling in Perth in 2011.
NT Hockey CEO Jason Butcher said he couldn’t be prouder seeing NT products on the big stage.
“We are incredibly proud to see our Territory Stingers’ players, Brooke and Jeremy being selected for their third and second Olympics,” he said.
“They are an inspiration to all Territorians, and we are excited to support them as they represent Australia on this biggest of world stages.”
“Additionally, it’s fantastic to see former Alice Springs lad Tom Wickham being selected for his second Olympics.
“Their achievements highlight the talent and potential within our community, and the importance of this pathway continuing to be supported by Hockey Australia.”.
