No Limit’s first Melbourne card has gotten off to a bloody start after Campbell Somerville was left a bloody mess in his fight with Isaias Sette.

The 26-year-old Somerville was 3-0 heading into the fight against the 0-1-1 Sette and was the heavy favourite but the 20-year-old Sette stunned with a monster performance.

Somerville, who competed for Australia at the Commonwealth Games, was heavily marked up by the fourth round as Sette continued to land haymakers.

But the longer the round went on, the more bloodied Somerville became.

Although you couldn’t doubt Somerville’s toughness as he kept marching forward, Sette landed some big shots late in the round.

It was enough for Somerville’s corner as they threw the towel in.

Former world champion Billy Dib said: “That’s a smart move.”

Main Event commentator Ben Damon was horrified by the damage on Somerville however, calling it “gruesome”.

“Look at the damage on the face of Campbell Somerville. Swelling everywhere, serious cuts as well and blood all over him.

“Credit to the corner, they said enough is enough and pulled him out.”

Aussie boxing legend Jeff Fenech said either fighter could have been winning but called it: “A great stoppage — that’s a trainer caring about his fighter, great to see.”

But soon after, it was revealed Somerville was being taken to hospital as there was a delay in proceedings waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

Former world champion Barry Michael said Somerville just “took too much punishment”.

“Not a good thing to see,” he added.

“Look at his face, terrible to see, against a relative novice, this guy’s fought at the top level in the amateurs. That was a big upset, a real big upset.”

Aussie boxing star Tim Tszyu said “what a fight”, praising Sette for an entertaining performance.

But UFC champion Alexandrer Volkanovski said it was getting “tough to watch” as Somerville showed the damage all over his face.

“I thought the corner did a great job throwing in that towel,” he said. “Obviously he was still game, he was still trying to throw, he still had that volume punching going but he was copping too much damage. It was tough to watch.”

He later added that some fighters are too tough for their own good.
