Fans have called for an upcoming bout to be settled “in the street” after a revolting moment in the pre-fight face-off.
The match-up is between musician Gallo the Producer, whose real name is Jonathan Ralf Rosario Ortiz, and creator and fellow “influencer” Arte Carde.
UFC 314: Volkanovski vs Lopes | SUN 13 APRIL | Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski looks to become a two-time World Champion as he takes on Brazil’s Diego Lopes for the vacant Undisputed Featherweight title, in Miami | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports. Main Event on Kayo Sports and Foxtel is the exclusive home of UFC Pay-Per-View.
The fight is being held in Puerto Rico on Sunday (AEST) and has the ambitious title of “The Art of Boxing”.
While the undercard features some professional boxers, Gallo and Carde have apparently been engaging in some good old online trolling of each other and will have an “intense duel” to “settle the social media controversy”, according to the promoters.
It was also all described as “nonsense”, perhaps fittingly, by one online publication.
It is all supposed to be settled in the ring, but Carde didn’t get the message, opting to throw the first punch, of sorts, by spitting directly in his opponent’s face in a disgusting act on Friday.

Gallo reacted and a screaming match ensued, although surprisingly no punches were exchanged, with the two still scheduled to meet in the ring.
Less surprisingly, there was a strong fallout to the viral moment on X, with many fans wanting Carde to be swiftly dealt with after the grossly unsanitary act.
“Nah we not even boxing after this, you gotta see me in the street,” was one comment on the platform.
“I’d just sue him and call the fight off. It’s not even about “having a backbone” or “that’s what a standoff is”. That’s not what a standoff is. Push me, get in my face, no problem. But dude that’s a whole bio organic assault,” declared another.
“Nah I’m sorry buddy gotta die after that,” was another opinion.
“He should get banned for this,” wrote a fourth.
Another boxing fan agreed, tweeting: “Guy should get a lifetime ban for that.”
While there were some suggestions the whole thing was staged, an X user had a pretty reasonable response to that idea.
An account called Adrian wrote: “It’s all staged. They were together at a podcast after that.
“This Gallo guy is known for his work in PR.”
But a profile called Reece W had a fair reply to that: “They would be having to pay me a lot for that to be staged. That’s worse that being knocked out.”
For what it’s worth, we tend to agree.
It seemed Gallo could see the lighter side of the incident, turning up for the next face-off wearing a protective mask on his face.
As probably intended, it will have brought some more attention to the fight, which is a pay-per-view event on TrillerTV.
