British boxer Conor Benn has claimed a huge knockout victory over Chris Algieri on Sunday (AEDT), putting the American veteran to sleep with a vicious blow in the fourth round.
The 25-year-old secured his 20th consecutive professional victory, including 13 KO wins, to retain the WBA Continental welterweight title at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena.

After biding his time in the opening three rounds, Benn sent Algieri to the canvas with a vicious one-two combination that connected with his jaw. The straight right demolished Algieri’s guard and his senses.
Benn had a split second where he could have leathered his opponent as he fell to the canvas, but the boxer showed great control in allowing him to fall to the floor without a follow-up assault.
Footage of the knockout blow, which left the 37-year-old falling lifelessly onto the deck, quickly circulated on social media.

Before Sunday’s loss, the only three defeats on Algieri’s impressive record came on points against Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan, as well as a KO loss to heavy handed Errol Spence Jr.
Speaking after his victory, Benn said: “These fights are not tests. It is not arrogance, it is confidence.
“What more do I have to do? Maybe I just frustrate myself but you don’t get the rankings I have for nothing.
“I put him to sleep and you should not expect anything else. I knew the knockout was coming.”
Proud father and boxing legend Nigel Benn added: “This is the fight where Conor made his own path, he is not in my shadow any more.
“I have watched him in training doing 15 times four-minute rounds with 30-second rests so I knew it would not go the distance.
“It was unbelievable and he is going all the way.”
With his latest triumph, Benn has sent out yet another warning that he is rapidly approaching world title contention.
