SuperCoach NBL trade guide: Who to buy, hold, sell for round 10

The experts have spoken and these are the players to target and avoid in SuperCoach NBL round 10.

Round 10 Best Sells

It doesn’t matter if your team is charging or flopping.

Benny, Banksy and Boydie – the Basketball Blokes – are here to assist with tips to help you rebound.

These are the players you should consider buying, holding and selling in your SuperCoach NBL side for round 10.

SELL

Sells of the week: Anthony Lamb (NZ) $403,600 FWD and Parker Jackson-Cartwright (NZ) $373,300 GRD

Trading gun players out due to schedule reasons can be a scary prospect. Last week we listed Bryce Cotton as a scheduled sale and he posted a season high 66 SuperCoach points. However, he did not score as many SuperCoach points as McCall, Miller, Anthony Lamb or Parker Jackson-Cartwright last round; and this is why the schedule is all so important.

This round it is Lamb who gets the chop! The season is punctuated by periods of poor schedule and it dictates that the hyphen (Jackson-Cartwright) is also a sale candidate. Both players have made us plenty of dollars and they can now be used to target some other premium players with better upcoming schedules.

Other players to consider selling

Mangok Mathiang (NZ) $158,300 FWD/CTR

Another NZ player that can take a break is Mangok Mathiang. Mathiang has not performed well for those who brought him in to capitalise on the Cheathum injury and good NZ schedule. At what many thought was a juicy price, Mangok has not met market expectations and should be sold.

BENNY’S BREAK EVENS

Each week Benny will list some of the notable Break Evens for the week ahead – players with low Break Evens are set to rise in price while high Break Evens indicate a looming price drop. Sign up to SuperCoach Plus for the full list of Break Evens plus more stats and tools to help your team.

• Josh Roberts (-10, 2 games)

• Will Magnay (-6, 1 game)

• Lachlan Olbrich (-5, 1 game)

• Izayah Le’Afa (0, 1 game)

• Jonah Bolden (36, 2 games)

• Denzel Valentine (56, 2 games)

HOLD

Hold of the Week: Will Magnay (TAS) $236,500 FWD/CTR

Big Will Magnay was a popular trade target last round and salvaged a 17 point SuperCoach point performance from only 14 minutes. For those of us holding out some hope that Magnay could surpass Marcus Lee in the JackJumpers rotation, that unfortunately did not come to fruition. Regardless, part of the benefit of bringing in Magnay is that his 50 SuperCoach point performance was going to impact his price rise for this upcoming round also. For this reason, Magnay’s Break Even sits at -6 and should result in another solid price rise after his $33.5k rise last week. Magnay will need to show us more to feel confident in playing him on our starting court, but for now, hold on to Magnay and hope he comes good.

Other players to consider holding:

Josh Bannan (BRI)

Bannan will be a sell prospect if we get negative injury news relating to his delayed concussion symptoms that kept him out of last game. The NBL has a graduated return to play process, where concussed players have to meet certain criteria in 24-hour periods to move onto the next stage. Fingers crossed that he progresses well and does not have any longer-term implications.

Round 10 Best Holds

BANKSY’S BARGAINS

Each week Banksy will rank his favourite cheap players (under 200k) regardless of schedule. Taran Armstrong (CRN) $150,00 GRD remains the best bargain, but we have some different options for you this week.

1. Josh Roberts (CRN) $121,500 FWD

After averaging just 4 minutes of playing time per game this season, Roberts got his chance playing 36 minutes across Round 9. The result was 51 SuperCoach points across his two games after scoring just 23 points for the season in the first 8 rounds in total. He got the start ahead of Waardenburg against United in his most recent game and played just shy of 27 minutes - his 38 SuperCoach points highlighted by 22 points and 3 blocks. Whether we see the same opportunity going forward remains to be seen, but the fact Cairns beat a red hot United at John Cain must bode well for his chances.

2. Lachlan Olbrich (ADL) $88,400 CTR/FWD

Olbrich played just 4 minutes in his last game under Jackomas, but a new coach brings a new opportunity. He has played 28 minutes across his two games since, with his most recent game producing 20 SuperCoach points - an equal season high. Lachie heads into Round 10 with a breakeven of -5. If he continues to see increased opportunity under coach Tatum, hopefully his owners continue to see the price spike we were hoping for at the beginning of the season.

3. Alex Starling (ADL) $126,000 FWD

Another guy seeing an increase in opportunity. Starling failed to see double digit minutes in his first 8 games of the season, but he has now played 12 minutes or more in 4 of his past 5 games. Alex will head into Round 10 with the lowest breakeven in the competition (-15) thanks to a team high 31 SuperCoach points against the JackJumpers. His last two games have produced his two highest SuperCoach scores for the season.

4. Hyrum Harris (PER) $158,500 FWD

As we continue to see Harris receive the starting role for the Wildcats, we continue to see his SuperCoach points increase. He had one game above 8 SuperCoach points in his first 8 games, but has since produced scores of 13, 15, 21 and 19. His minutes have consolidated and so have his scores. Harris heads into Round 10 with a breakeven of -2.

5. Mantas Rubstavicius (NZ) 118,100 FWD

The injury interruptions have let Mantas fly under the radar to date. However, he continues to see opportunities for the Breakers with games of 13, 18, 15, 14 and 21 minutes played in his last 5. He did have a poor score of 2 SuperCoach points on return from injury, but aside from that his other 3 games have been scores of 17,14 and 20. You wouldn’t pick him over Josh Roberts, but let’s put him on our watch list for now.

BUY

Buy of the Week: Patrick Miller (CRN) $383,500 GRD

A huge pat on the back for those of you who held Miller through his earlier injury, he is certainly rewarding you now. For those NBL SuperCoaches out there that are yet to acquire Patrick, we can confirm it most certainly is still Miller time. Miller had 65 SuperCoach points on the tough Melbourne United defence and was a model of efficiency going 12-16 from the field and having an awesome 10-2 assist to turnover ratio. Both Miller and McCall are producing numbers alongside each other, you should be looking to acquire both. The reason Miller is the buy of the week this week is solely due to writing up McCall last week. That was the right call at the time, Pat should do the trick this week.

BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS

Each week Boydie will rank the other best buys for the week ahead.

1. Tahjere McCall (CRN) $367,900 GRD/FWD

Top SuperCoach score for the week with 89, straight swap from Buy of the Week to the top best buys with Pat Miller taking the Buy of the week spot this week. McCall averaged 32.5 SuperCoach points since his return from injury; and over 41 SC over his last 3 games. With that Cairns schedule still to come, what more can we say!

Round 10 Best Buys

2. DJ Hogg (SYD) $364,400 FWD

Coming off 40 SuperCoach points last round and heading into a Sydney double round DJ Hogg looks a popular trade in this week. He is averaging 34 SC over his last 4 games and Sydney have 5 doubles over there next 8 rounds so Hogg could be a long term option for your team if your value is riding high and you have solid bench options.

3. Jaylen Adams (SYD) $360,700 GRD

Similar reasons for trading Jaylen Adams into your team this week although Jaylen scores slightly less enticing than Hogg’s over his last 4 games, with only a 28 SC average over those 4 games. But he has had scores of 38 twice, 36 and 35 twice this season so can obviously pad those stats and get good SuperCoach scores for his owners.

4. Johan Bolden (SYD) $247,200 FWD/CTR

If you didn’t jump on Jonah’s ark last week, now is your chance! His arc continues to point up with 34 points in a single game and a $30k price rise for the round! Bolden is averaging almost 25 SuperCoach points a game over his last 5 games and that includes a yucky 8 SuperCoach point game against NZ in that block of games.

5. Taran Armstrong (CRN) $150,900 GRD

Not super cheap now with rise after rise already gone through but still decent option for a bench downgrade if you need to do that this week to get a Miller, McCall, Hogg or Adams into your side.

6. Will Magnay (TAS) $203,000 FWD/CTR

7. Denzel Valentine (SYD) $290,300 GRD/FWD

8. Bobi Klintman (CRN) $197,500 FWD

9. Josh Roberts (CRN) $121,500 FWD

10. Alex Toohey (SYD) $215,300 FWD
