SuperCoach NBL: Who to buy, hold, sell round 16 via the Basketball Blokes

The SuperCoach NBL finals are looming so it’s time to dive deep into the strategy. The Basketball Blokes give their verdict on round 16.

SuperCoach NBL | Round 16 Best Buys

It doesn’t matter if your team is charging or flopping, Benny, Banksy and Boydie – the Basketball Blokes – are here to assist with tips to help you rebound.

These are the players you should consider buying, holding and selling in your SuperCoach NBL side for round 16.

This week we will be using a slightly different format with the players to sell and hold.

At this time of the year, your decision to sell and hold a player will be largely dependent on your goals and where you are sitting in your leagues.

Make sure you check your league settings to see when your finals begin. Depending on format, you may not have to play a league match in a particular round, so you could begin to strategise based on your anticipated road to victory.

SELL or HOLD

Milton Doyle (TAS) $324,000 GRD and Jordon Crawford (TAS) $287,300 GRD

Both of the Tassie guards would normally be considered scheduled sales with back-to-back single-game rounds. However, this is where your individual circumstances come into play. If you are hoping to win your league and you have a top 2 spot secured, you can sell your JackJumpers as they don’t have a double-game round in the finals. However, if you are planning for round 18 or are in a league where you’re going to finish 5th or 6th in your finals, you may want to hold as round 18 will be important to you.

Verdict: If you need these guys in round 18, you can hold.

Sam Waardenburg (CRN) $164,500 FWD/CTR

Having missed last round as part of concussion protocols having suffered whiplash, owners get another opportunity to sell Sam who is slated with a 31% chance of reaching his Break Even next time he plays. Cairns do have their last double-game round this week, but we suggest you look at Banksy’s Bargains to find an alternative. The argument to hold is that there is hope he can play over the double-game round or that you are focusing your trades on on-court point scoring over your SuperCoach bench.

Verdict: SELL!

Sam Mennenga (CRN) $228,600 CTR

If Mennenga is a bench option for you, you may elect to hope that the score of 0 SuperCoach points in 5 minutes of game time was an anomaly. He averaged 25 SuperCoach points per game in his prior 7 matches. The case to sell is that he is highly unlikely to reach his Break Even (13%) and that the Taipans have a league worst schedule after this round.

Verdict: Sell this week or next.

Jaylin Galloway (SYD) $193,000 FWD

Galloway got out SuperCoached by his brother in their head-to-head last round. Jaylin has 3 consecutive scores in the teens which has been disappointing with DJ Hogg being out of the line-up. The Kings have a single game round this week.

Verdict: Can be held for the Kings’ double-game round next week.

Jonah Bolden (SYD) $206,800 FWD/CTR

Shares the same story as Galloway in respect of scoring in the teens.

Verdict: Can be held for the King’s double-game round next week.

Anthony Lamb (NZ) $423,500 FWD

The case to hold Lamb is a strong one. If you are holding him this week you are likely able to hold him for the remainder of the season. He did have a low score and a high Break Even, however this only matters if you plan on selling him. NZ have a league best schedule after this round and Delaney is still a way off returning. The only reason to sell is if it gets you to Bryce Cotton, but hopefully you can get the Cotton Wool Combo of Lamb and Bryce.

Verdict: Hold unless he is your only access to Cotton.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright (NZ) 363,800 GRD

The main difference between Lamb and Parker is that WiIl McDowell-White may eat into his workload. He obviously shares the same positive schedule.

Verdict: Sell if you can get to Cotton. Hold if you are looking towards the last 2 weeks of your league finals.

BENNY’S BREAK EVENS

Each week Benny will list some of the notable Break Evens for the week ahead – players with low Break Evens are set to rise in price while high Break Evens indicate a looming price drop. Sign up to SuperCoach Plus for the full list of Break Evens plus more stats and tools to help your team.

• AK Gak (-19, 2 games)

• Angus Glover (-6, 1 game)

• Gorjok Gak (10, 2 games)

• Jaylen Adams (14, 1 game)

• Alan Williams (82, 2 games)

• Bryce Cotton (86, 2 games)

BANKSY’S BARGAINS

Each week Banksy will rank his favourite cheap players (under $200k) regardless of schedule.

1. Tai Webster (PER) $182,500 GRD

34 and 32 SuperCoach points over his past two games heading into back-to-back double-game rounds. The minutes are up, and the confidence is back with his shot finally dropping again. His last two games resulting in 20 and 11 points for Perth are his highest point totals over his last eight after a string of single digit games. With a breakeven of 19 across his two games this week, Tai owners are looking at a predicted $20k price boost.

2. Shannon Scott (BRI) $185,800 GRD

Priced at 16, Scott is now averaging 23.25 SuperCoach points over his last four games. The 9 against the JackJumpers last week was foul impacted early which resulted in poor production, but we saw a typical “5 point, 5 rebound, 6 assist, 3 steal” Shannon Scott line in the second game of the round resulting in 31 SuperCoach points. With a couple of 30s in his past 4 and a double this week, Scott is an underpriced import you can comfortably sit on your bench for the final five rounds.

3. Akoldah Gak (CRN) $96,300 FWD/CTR

I’m not sure who Sam Mennenga upset at Cairns, but after some solid production and 26 minutes per game over his past 3, he received just four minutes of game play against Adelaide despite the starting role. Enter Akoldah Gak. Completely left field after playing a total of 15 minutes combined over his last 6 games, but he converted the potential we saw in the preseason into a 46 SuperCoach point game. Gak posted an impressive double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds thanks to a season high 28 minutes of court time. Following comments made post-game, Adam Forde isn’t the biggest SuperCoach fan so tread carefully. Josh Roberts anyone?

4. Angus Glover (SYD) $98,800 GRD

After averaging just 10 minutes a game over his previous four, Glover deservingly received an uptick in minutes across round 15. Playing 21 and 25 minutes a game, Angus finished with 34 SuperCoach points for the round priced at just 8 SuperCoach points. The schedule isn’t pretty, but with a breakeven of -6, it’s a viable cash grab and downgrade bench option down the straight if the minutes continue.

5. Gorjok Gak (SEM) $102,900 FWD/CTR

Need a bargain option with a better schedule? Priced at under 9 SuperCoach points, Gak has posted scores of 16 and 19 in his two games since returning from injury. His 6 points and 11 rebounds in just 13 minutes against Perth was impressive. A downgrade bench option with back-to-back doubles.

BUY

Buy of the Week: Bryce Cotton (PER) $460,600 GRD

Yes, he is the most expensive player in the game and for good reason! Bryce has the highest average SuperCoach score for the year at 37.5 but is actually averaging 41.5 SuperCoach points over his last 6 games and is heading into 2 double-game rounds in a row this week. Bryce will make for an awesome captain option in 3 of the next 5 rounds and can genuinely be held for the remainder of the season. Perth have had only one double-game round over the last 7 rounds, so it will be nice to have Bryce back in our line-ups. He has the added bonus of having a double-game round in our NBL SuperCoach Grand Finals. If you haven’t Cottoned on! Buy Bryce!

BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS

Each week Boydie will rank the other best buys for the week ahead.

1. Isaac Humphries (ADL) $335,700 CTR

Ice was the highest SuperCoach scorer for Round 15 with 88 and he is still priced as a decent value option. Adelaide is on the double this week; and again in round 18, where only Adelaide and Tassie are on the double. This makes him a very good buy option.

2. Sam Froling (ILL) $364,800 FWD/CTR

With the Hawks still having 4 double-game rounds in the last 5 rounds of the season combined with Sam’s form and price; he is an absolute buy option again this week. Those lucky enough to have traded him in last week or previously picked up his 67 SuperCoach points for the round.

3. Trey Kell III (ADL) $352,500 GRD

Kell had his doubters, including at least one of the Basketball Blokes, but did he prove them wrong or what? 69 SuperCoach points for the round, Trey is filling the stats sheet up each game so we say get him in!

4. Gary Clark (ILL) $366,800 FWD

75 SuperCoach points for the round and that Hawks schedule to come, would be higher but red flag with Clark charged with driving under the influence last week. Will this result in a suspension at some stage?

5 and 6. Justin Robinson (ILL) $274,200 GRD / Tyler Harvey (ILL) $260,400

I couldn’t split the 2 Hawks import guards here. They had 64 and 69 for the round respectively and have a great schedule. If you need a reasonably priced guard, this is where we would be looking.

7. Tai Webster (PER) $182,500 GRD

8. Keanu Pinder (PER) $318,000 FWD/CTR

9. Zylan Cheatham (NZ) $253,600 FWD

10. Dejan Vasiljevic (ADL) $318,600

11. Anthony Lamb (NZ) $423,500 FWD

12. Alan Williams (SEM) $401,900 CTR

13. Mitch Creek (SEM) $392,800 FWD
