SELL
Sell of the week: Jaylin Galloway (SYD) $231,400 FWD
Jaylin has arguably been the best selection in all of NBL SuperCoach for those that started with him in their line-ups. Not too long after giving us a contender for dunk of the season, Galloway left the match with a shoulder injury and did not return.
Whilst we need to monitor injury news as it comes to hand, Galloway is a trade candidate regardless, given the plethora of trade in targets discussed below in this article. For now, you can thank Jaylin for shouldering the load for your SuperCoach side; and perhaps he can rejoin your team in round 10 when the Kings’ schedule improves.
Others to consider selling ...
Will Cummings (SEM) $304,400 GRD
Despite Damon Lowery’s thoughts during the broadcast, a corky can be debilitating. Will Cummings missed the majority of the second half of the Phoenix’s last game having suffered a corked thigh late in the first half. He was on crutches after the game and is heading for scans through the week. Regardless, a quick scan of the trade in options this round makes Cummings going a valid trade option.
South East Melbourne Phoenix players in general
For those coaches who have had the likes of Creek, Gary Browne and Ben Ayre from the start of the season; now is a good time to move these players onto some of our awesome trade-in targets this week. For those who went early on Alan Williams, you may want to consider holding through round 7 before potentially looking for alternatives.
Ben Henshall (PER) $71,000 GRD
Henshall was a “Did Not Play - Coach’s Decision” last round as Rillie shortened his rotation. Last time he received a DNP he came out the following game and became the first player in NBL history to lead the match in scoring on their professional debut with 24 points. We don’t see history repeating and we finally have a sideways trade option or two to get some bench scoring.
BENNY’S BREAK EVENS
Each week Benny will list some of the notable Break Evens for the week ahead – players with low Break Evens are set to rise in price while high Break Evens indicate a looming price drop. Sign up to SuperCoach Plus for the full list of Break Evens plus more stats and tools to help your team.
• Bobi Klintman (-15, 2 games)
• Mitch Norton (2, 2 games)
• AK Gak (5, 2 games)
• Parker Jackson-Cartwright (40, 2 games)
• Anthony Lamb (52, 2 games)
• Bryce Cotton (53, 1 game)
HOLD
Hold of the Week: Melbourne United players
Unlike the heavily rostered South East Melbourne Phoenix players discussed above, Melbourne United have one more double-game round before a league worst five single game rounds in a row. Luke Travers, Ariel Hukporti, Chris Goulding and Shea Ili are all in the top 20 for SuperCoach points scored this season with Travers and Ili being the easiest two to hold this week based on recent performance.
We think you should keep Hukporti for one more week despite the return of Jo Lual-Acuil. The biggest question of the week is should you be holding Goulding? He missed out last round against the Hawks and would likely need a big score this time around to reach his Break Even before coming up against the restrictive JackJumpers.
Last time he played the Hawks at John Cain arena he poured in 25 points. When he goes back home (he’s Tasmanian) against the JackJumpers we say don’t muck with Huk, but are you holding Goulding?
BANKSY’S BARGAINS
Each week Banksy ranks his favourite bargain players regardless of schedule.
1. Bobi Klintman (CNS) $167,700 FWD
As you will read below, Bobi Klintman is our clear buy of the week. A -15 breakeven, Bobi is a guy priced at around 14 whilst averaging 29 per game. You won’t find a better bargain!
2. Josh Bannan (BRI) $69,000 FWD
Bannan may have only scored six SuperCoach points in his debut game against SEM, but being handed the starting role in his first NBL appearance and playing 19 minutes in his return from injury was pleasing to see. He had scores of 24 and 14 in the Blitz, the latter being a partial game after he went down with a knee injury. He has the ability to post solid fantasy numbers and Baynes will miss the next two through suspension. Priced at just six SuperCoach points, Bannan will be one to consider this week before his first change with Brisbane on a double.
3. Mitch Norton (BRI) $131,900 GRD
Injury creates opportunity, and it looks like Norton will be the beneficiary after Shannon Scott sustained a hamstring injury against SEM Phoenix on Saturday night. Mitch averaged 18 minutes per game in his first five games for Brisbane. Scott played 11 minutes Saturday before going down with injury, which resulted in Norton having to play a season high 25 minutes which naturally resulted in a season high 31 SuperCoach points. It’s an important week in the context of Brisbane’s season and Norton who is priced at 11.5 SuperCoach points, will have to play big minutes whilst Scott is sidelined.
4. Alex Toohey (SYD) $196,300 FWD
The exciting Next Star has been a consistent performer for the Sydney Kings scoring 23 or more SuperCoach points in four of his six games. He heads into Round 5 with a negative Break Even and sits priced at around 17 points per game. There could be further opportunity ahead for Toohey after Jaylin Galloway exited the game late against the JackJumpers with a shoulder injury. Watch this space throughout the week, as it resulted in a season high 26 minutes for Toohey. If Galloway is sidelined, Toohey could see a further bump in court time.
5. Sam Waardenburg (CNS) $238,800 FWD/CTR
SuperCoach Plus members will know that the Burger is looking at the third best predicted price increase this week – a $33k boost to his price tag. Scores of 36 and 22 SuperCoach points in his previous two games have me interested, but so do the minutes. 35 and 32 minutes in his last two games is an increase on his 26 minutes per game from last season, and with Pinder’s departure and a thin frontcourt, Sam should continue to play big minutes.
BUY
Buy of the Week: Bobi Klintman (CNS) $167,700 FWD
Having said goodbye to Bobi in round 2 as the snakes headed on a plane to the USA, it is finally time to buy Bobi this week. Having been traded out of some sides after round 1, Klintman went ballistic in round 2 with scores of 42 and 29. That round one score of 15 SuperCoach points will not count towards his next price increase, which is currently projected to be the highest increase in the entire competition.
If you are hesitant to start Bobi on your court, he is an excellent bench option that can be used on your court in rounds 10 and 13 where the Taipans are one of only two teams on the double-game rounds those weeks. Speaking of double-game rounds, Klintman and his teammates have the perfect schedule through to round 13. Get Klintman this week, and then add more of his Cairns teammates week to week.
BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS
Each week Boydie will rank the other best buys for the week ahead.
1. Parker Jackson-Cartwright (NZ) $336,200 GRD
PJC, or the hyphen, was the buy of the week last week and if you didn’t buy him not only did you miss out on his 45 SuperCoach points for the round (on a single!) you missed out on his massive $59,200 price increase which makes him a little pricey this week. However, his Break Even is still only 40 and he has a double game round this week which means that at 20 per game, PJC should be getting it done. If you don’t have him, do it!
2. Patrick Miller (CRN) $298,500 GRD
We haven’t seen Miller in the NBL for a couple of weeks due to the Cairns NBL v NBA games, but don’t forget about Patty Miller! Miller had SuperCoach scores of 30, 35 and 32 in his first three games in the NBL. With Cairns’ excellent schedule moving forward and his reasonably low Break Even of 34 over the double game round, Patty must come into your trade calculations this week.
3. Zylan Cheatham (NZ) $279,800 FWD
Fresh off his double-double against Portland in the NBL v NBA games, Zylan had 45 SuperCoach points on a single for round 4 to match his NZ running mate PJC. With NZ having the equal best schedule over the next five weeks, that is every reason to get Cheatham into your side.
4. Sam Waardenburg (CRN) $238,800 FWD/CTR
With Cairns having the best schedule over the next nine rounds overall, plenty of SuperCoach teams looking long term at the Centre spot should be looking at Burger aka Sam Waardenburg. Scores of 14, 36 and 22 to date, those last two scores coincided with Burger playing over 30 minutes, which is something we love the sound of! Waardenburg has 15 points and four rebounds in Cairns’ 2nd NBL v NBA game v Toronto so he is looking juicy for round 5 and onwards.
5. Ariel Hukporti (MEL) $248,900 CTR
Hukporti has another double game round this week and still has a very low Break Even at 25 over those games. I think he is still worth buying if you need a starting Centre for this round. Especially if you want to make some cash before possibly trading him out next week for United’s run of five single game rounds.
6. Josh Bannan (BRI) $69,000 FWD
7. Jordon Crawford (TAS) $356,400 GRD
8. Nathan Sobey (BRI) $346,600 GRD
9. Luke Travers (MEL) $283,200 GRD/FWD
10. Milton Doyle (TAS) $350,600 GRD
