SuperCoach NBL 2024: Who to buy, hold and sell for Round 17

The schedule is crucial over the final few rounds of SuperCoach NBL and our resident gurus The Basketball Blokes have you covered.

SuperCoach NBL | Round 17 Best Buys

It doesn’t matter if your team is charging or flopping.

Benny, Banksy and Boydie – the Basketball Blokes – are here to assist with tips to help you rebound.

These are the players you should consider buying, holding and selling in your SuperCoach NBL side for round 17.

SELL

Sells of the week: Tahjere McCall (CRN) $406,500 GRD/FWD

It’s not often we get to highlight the sell of the week in order to say thanks, but McCall may be the MVP of NBL SuperCoach this season. He missed the early part of the season due to injury and for the birth of his child. Having come back on a minute restriction he became an awesome value selection for us as Cairns went on their run of double-game rounds. Over that period since he scored 36 SuperCoach points against a tough JackJumpers outfit, he averaged 37.4 SuperCoach points. So having said ta, it’s time to say ta ta to Tahj, as the Taipans only have single game rounds for the remainder of the season. As McCall is a dual position player, you should be able to move him to a range of premium players with good schedules for the remainder of the year.

Other players to consider selling

Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets players

As mentioned above, the Taipans have only single games remaining. The same goes for their fellow Queensland club in the Brisbane Bullets. Get off the Cairns and dodge the Bullets from here on out.

Injured Player Watch

There were plenty of players dealing with injuries last round that are on a double-game round this week including DJ Hogg (SYD), Alex Sarr (PER) and possibly Gary Clark. Keep an eye out for injury updates for these players and consider trading if required.

BENNY’S BREAK EVENS

Each week Benny will list some of the notable Break Evens for the week ahead – players with low Break Evens are set to rise in price while high Break Evens indicate a looming price drop. Sign up to SuperCoach Plus for the full list of Break Evens plus more stats and tools to help your team.

• Kyrin Galloway (-23, 1 game)

• Nick Marshall (-8, 1 game)

• Marcus Lee (4, 1 game)

• Gorjok Gak (7, 2 games)

• Bryce Cotton (84, 2 games)

• Gary Browne (90, 2 games)

HOLD

Hold of the Week: Justin Robinson (ILL) $257,400 GRD

Having averaged over 26 SuperCoach points per game over his last 7, owners of Justin Robinson will indeed feel robbed after his 19 SuperCoach point performance in round 16. His scores of 10 and 9 are his lowest scores for the season and will have owners worried that we may be seeing another stretch of poor form from Robinson who averaged only 16 in a 5-game stretch earlier in the year. The reason to hold Robinson is because the Hawks have an equal league best schedule for the remainder of the season; and you only need to worry about him losing value if you plan on selling him. Ideally, Robinson can be moved to your bench where other guard candidates are available. There are plenty of guard options this round. The 36ers and Tasmania have guard options next round; and after that, similarly priced guards have questions of their own. You can hold Robinson.

Other players to consider holding:

Adelaide 36ers

Adelaide are one of only 2 teams that have a double-game round next week. You should do everything you can to hold them through their single game round this week. The exception may be Jacob Wiley if we find out that his heel injury will take a long time to heal.

BANKSY’S BARGAINS

Each week Banksy will rank his favourite cheap players (under 200k) regardless of schedule.

1. Gorjok Gak (SEM) $135,100 FWD/CTR

Gorjok was heavily traded in this week following the news Alan Williams is out for the remainder of the season. As expected, Gak saw a boost in opportunity playing 22 and 26 minutes across SEM’s two games in Round 16. Resulting in 44 SuperCoach points, Gak will head into Round 17 with a Break Even of 7. Priced at just 11 points, Gak is excellent value with Phoenix heading into another double game round.

2. Kyrin Galloway (ADL) $154,400 FWD

Galloway has seen a huge uptick in minutes over the last four games for Adelaide. After playing no more than 13 minutes in a single game over his previous 12, he has now played 29.5 minutes per game over his last 4. Although Adelaide has a single this week, you may want to consider grabbing Kyrin whilst he is priced at 13 SuperCoach points, after he ranked 4th for total points last round, finishing with 66 across his two games. Adelaide has an important double next week, as they are one of just two teams along with the JackJumpers on a double. Keep an eye on the health of Jacob Wiley.

3. Will McDowell-White (NZ) $188,900 GRD

Following five games which resulted with minutes played in the teens, Will is finally seeing a slow incline in minutes with 22, 23 and 23 minutes played over his last 3. He saw more court time than Parker Jackson Cartwright against the Phoenix which resulted in 32 SuperCoach points thanks to 13 points and 7 assists. A great trade target at his current price, with the Breakers slated for three doubles over the remaining four rounds.

4. Mantas Rubstavicius (NZ) $170,000 FWD

Despite the return of key personnel at the Breakers recently, Mantas continues to be rewarded with plenty of court time. Averaging 18 SuperCoach points whilst playing 23 minutes per game over his last 10, Rubstavicius has the schedule to match with three doubles over the final four rounds. Another option to cash in on your bench without compromising on points down the home stretch.

5. Nick Marshall (ADL) $107,200 FWD

Marshall continues to be rewarded with the starting role and has now played double digit minutes in each of his last 11 games. Nick has provided owners with some consistency over his last three with SuperCoach scores of 15, 14 and a season high 25 last round. With Adelaide running hot, Nick is a great downgrade option for your bench priced at just 9 SuperCoach points to round out the season.

BUY

Buy of the Week: Anthony Lamb (NZ) $395,900 FWD

The Breakers now have the equal best schedule (shared with the Hawks) to finish the season with doubles in Round 17, 19 and 20. That should mean locking away at least one of their premium options the rest of the SuperCoach season; and we think your best option here is Anthony Lamb. Lamb is averaging 34.3 SuperCoach points for the season although he is averaging 37.5 SuperCoach points over his last 6 games and that includes that low 19 score v Sydney in Round 15. Lamb will be a popular buy this week despite him being a little on the pricey side. Hopefully you can pair him with Bryce for what we are calling the Cotton Wool combo.

BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS

Each week Boydie will rank the other best buys for the week ahead.

1. Parker Jackson-Cartwright (NZ) $348,300 GRD

Fresh off a 40 SuperCoach game in Round 16 and thanks to the Breakers, PJC has to come into your buy calculations this week if you can get him. PJC is averaging 34.5 SuperCoach points for the year, 2nd highest guard behind Cotton.

2. Bryce Cotton (PER) $464,800 GRD

Bryce is nice, but twice the Bryce (captaining him) is even nicer. Cream rises to the top and that is certainly the case with Cotton in Round 16, 91 SuperCoach points for the Perth double, some 15 SuperCoach points higher for the round than the next best in Trey Kell. Cotton is the most highly owned player and that ain’t going to change going into another double-game round for Perth. Fade him at your peril!

3. Sam Froling (ILL) $366,600 FWD/CTR

The Hawk’s run home is very SuperCoach friendly as we have discussed at length; and Sam Froling is the best option at Centre position to ride that train home. Froling had 69 SuperCoach points for Round 16 and is averaging 30.4 SuperCoach points for the season, but 36.2 over his last 5 games. Another one that you should not be fading!

4. Tyler Harvey (ILL) $292,900 GRD

Although his season average is not that enticing at 22.5 SuperCoach points, Harvey has found some form lately averaging 32.5 SuperCoach points over his last 4 games after a round score of 61 over the Hawks double in Round 16. His price has appreciated over the last couple weeks now so he isn’t as cheap as he was but is significantly cheaper than Cotton/PJC/Jaylen Adams for this week’s double if you’re a bit low on cash

5. Zylan Cheatham (NZ) $245,700 FWD

Cheatham has averaged 24 SuperCoach points since his return to his full minute quota over his last 4 games. We think 24 is his floor; and he has demonstrated his ability to touch a ceiling both on the court and from a SuperCoach perspective. Great schedule over the finals, if you want to beat’em get Cheatham.

6. Tai Webster (PER) $225,700 GRD

Yes, you are reading this correctly, Tai Webster is our 5th buy option for the week. Although his season average of 17.3 SuperCoach is not that flattering, Tai has averaged 32 SuperCoach points a game in his last 4 games. Slight red flag here in that before that run of 4 games he did in fact have a zero, but it appears that Tai has turned a corner recently and with the Perth double in both this upcoming round and Round 20 he is a nicely priced buy option at Guard.

7. Gorjok Gak (SEM) $134,500 CTR/FWD

With Alan ‘Big Sauce’ Williams out for the rest of the season the minutes are there for Gorjok and he didn’t disappoint his owners in Round 16 with 44 SuperCoach points, well above his 11.8 SuperCoach point average across his injury interrupted season. A great downgrade option to spend some cash elsewhere for SuperCoach finals rounds.

8. Jordan Usher (PER) $215,900 FWD

Is Usher another Perth player to have found his groove to round out the year? 61 SuperCoach points for Perth’s Round 16 double and another double Round 17 makes him a decent option if your short of cash for a premium option.

9. Mitch Creek (SEM) $387,600 FWD

10. Jaylen Adams (SYD) $352,800 GRD

11. Will McDowell-White (NZ) $188,900 GRD
