The Sydney Kings’ quest for a three-peat has suffered a blow with import DJ Hogg ruled out for an extended period with a shoulder injury.

Code Sports has been told Hogg could miss several weeks after hurting his shoulder in the pre-season.

It’s a big blow for the Kings given the former Cairns Taipan was signed as a marquee replacement for NBA-bound star Xavier Cooks.

Hogg averaged 18.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Taipans in NBL23.

The shoulder injury ruled him out of the pre-season NBL Blitz on the Gold Coast.

Sydney look set to lean on rising forward Jaylin Galloway to replace Hogg in the opening rounds, starting with Saturday’s season-opener against Illawarra in Wollongong.

Galloway was a standout for the Kings at the Blitz, highlighted by a team-high 18 points in a close loss to the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
