Minute of madness: What caused the most violent 60 seconds in Australian Boomers history

SECOND by second analysis: Who did what and when during the most violent minute in Australian Boomers history.

EXPLAINER: Boomers in wild World Cup brawl

THIRTEEN players were ejected in the wildest brawl in Australian Boomers basketball history.

More than two dozen players and officials were involved during Australia’s FIBA World Cup qualifier against the Philippines on Monday night.

With four minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Boomers looked to be cruising to victory with a 79-48 lead but tensions boiled over when an Aussie player was aggressively knocked down taking a charge.

What followed was 60 seconds of complete madness that resulted in disgraceful scenes of violence and saw 13 players ejected from the game and at least 30 people on the floor at the height of the fracas.

After a stoppage of more than 30 minutes, the game continued despite the Philippines only able to field three players against Australia’s five.

As international rules stipulate, the match must continue unless a team only has a single player available, the remaining Filipino players eventually fouled themselves out of the game.
